(A little note, you go by the first letter of your name so when you see (Y/L), that's what that means. Okay, enjoy! Also, if you're a returning reader to these chapters I changed the POV a bit since I realized it's hard to imagine yourself in the situations when I have it as "she" instead of "you", you know. Anyway, enjoy!)

14 months ago. Seoul.

"Detective!" The man rushes up to the stopped figure, breaths coming out small and quick from exertion.

"I'm not the detective anymore, Minjae. I quit."

Minjae blanches, eyes widening. "What, no you can't! Listen (Y/N), I know it's difficult for you, but we need you. The department needs you. Seoul hasn't been cleaner since―"

"My father?"

Silence.

You raise your head from its dropped position, almost as if you had been praying, mourning. The last light of the setting sun outlines you silhouette in a band of yellow, leaving the front of your face shadowed and dark. Minjae's lips part, both in fear and awe. He'd crossed an invisible line.

"Public service isn't where I belong. You do what's right as a civil servant, you bring in those who wronged. But the system is corrupt. The people themselves are corrupt." You shake your head, eyes glinting dangerously. "It doesn't take a genius to understand what's going on. Scum brought in, only to be found raving streets the next night."

You turn your face to the side, revealing your soft profile. A frown sits hard on your lips, not suiting your beautiful face. "The law isn't what shackles. Man does."

You take the badge at your hip, and looks down at it, thumb brushing over the cool metal. You had worked all your life for what the seal stood for, had served it dutifully, blindly. Your grip tightens like your resolve, and you swing your arm back and throw. The fading light of day reflects off the metal and for a second the badge glints, winking knowingly at them, before falling into the river.

"What will you do?"

You look at the water for several moments.

"I'm going to change things." You look to Minjae, holding your look for a second in a quiet farewell, before turning and walking into the dying light.

6 and 6.

He walks over to the sniffling figure quietly. "Are you okay?"
