"Okay, Keefe, I'm serious, what happened?" Sophie asked. I took a deep breath. "Look, I get that you don't want to tell me, so can I open my mind to your thought?" I nodded, then laughed. "That still sounds creepy, you know that, right?"
She smiled and closed her eyes.
Hi, she transmitted.
'Sup?
She had to smother her giggle at that. So, what happened?
I winced as my mind replayed the horrific scene of Tam, Linh, Fitz, Biana, Mr. Forkle, Granite, Squall, Sophie and I teleported to a place in the middle of the Wanderlings. She saw a figure in a black cloak with an eye on the sleeve put a force field around them, leaving me and Sophie alone, side by side. She closed her eyes, and I threw some goblin throwing stars at the figure. He manipulated the air so they just missed and then sidestepped into the shadows as Brant appeared, his face a mess of scar tissue and blisters. Sophie yelled and tried to push inflicting energy at Brant, but the first figure grabbed her from behind and pressed a melder to her forehead. Throw your weapons away or risk losing your precious Moonlark, he hissed.
"Swan Song", Sophie whispered.
Then everything went black.
Black as a starless night.
As a shadow.
As a swan.
