tsukishima x yamaguchi | clouded kisses ☁️☆

it was a seemingly average day. yamaguchi woke up to the warm light filtering through his blinds signaling it was morning.

he rubbed his eyes and groaned as he remembered he had morning practice that day, "i really regret staying up so late last night..." he said to himself.

he got ready for the day as he usually would: got up, changed into his school uniform, brushed out his hair, and lastly set out for the walk to school.

he arrived at the corner him and tsukishima meet at. he stood there silent as he awaited his best friends arrival. only a few moments later, the tall blonde rounded the corner and made his way to meet the shorter boy where he was standing.

yamaguchi turned his head and smiled, "mornin' tsukki!" he said with enthusiasm.

"too loud yamaguchi. it's still early." kei replied, slightly annoyed as he repositioned the headphones that were hanging around his neck like a wreath.

"s-sorry tsukki," he replied in a quieter tone, trying to not upset his friend.

they began to walk side by side to school, staying silent most of the way there, except for yamaguchi making small talk as he usually does on their way to school.

the smaller boy turned his head to face kei, "how did you sleep?" he asked.

"good," the blonde replied.

their conversations were never long, but tadashi treasured every second of it. every so often he wished he and tsukishima could have a more "normal" friendship where they could go on and on, and never let a conversation drop, but with the way kei usually is when it comes to socializing, made it more special when they did have longer conversations with one another. those were moments the shorter boy held close to his heart.

they made it to the school grounds about the same time they always do, and began to make their way to the clubroom to meet with the rest of the team for practice that morning.

they walked in, most of the team was already there, except for tanaka and nishinoya, who were both always late. yamaguchi was the first of the two to set down his bag and start changing. he unbuttoned his blazer, then his shirt, and bent down to grab the one he brought for practice out of his bag, when he got the feeling someone was watching him. he turned his head slightly and noticed someone was staring at him out of the corner of his eye. 'is... is tsukki looking at me?' his face displayed a hue of red when he noticed, but continued to change as he normally would, trying to ignore it.

once everyone had arrived and was changed, they all walked down to the gym. well most of them walked. kageyama and hinata sprinted to beat each other to the gym as they always did. kei called them both idiots as he always does, trying to taunt them both. tadashi laughed along with him. he looked up quickly and saw tsukishima smiling. his cheeks began to heat up as he got a warm, fuzzy feeling from seeing his best friend smile. it always made his day when he saw his best friend happy.

tadashi shook the feeling as he walked into the gym. everyone's steps echoed as they walked down to the side of the court where their captian was standing.

daichi spoke up addressing the group, "i'm sure ukai and takeda will be here soon, in the mean time, lets get warmed up and stretched. we have to be ready for our practice match against nekoma next weekend!" he shouted out as the team stood around him in a huddle.

"yes sir!" they all responded in unison, and began to run laps around the gym.

as usual after practice, the team all headed down to the locker room to get changed and ready for classes, yamaguchi and tsukishima walking together of course.

they walked into the changing room, hinata and kageyama arguing about something and tanaka and nishinoya laughing next to them; the usual ruckus. the two middle blockers set down their bags and began to change.

as yamaguchi was buttoning up his shirt, tsukishima popped the question as he pulled his own shirt over his head, "you wanna come over tonight?"

now, it wasn't unusual for the two to hang out at each others house's. they have been friends since elementary school after all. but it's been a long time since they've had a chance to be with each other outside of school and practice. and over the course of the past few months, yamaguchi has felt especially anxious around tsukishima. not a bad kind of anxious like he's scared of him, but a kind where his hands start to shake, he stutters on his words. his face and ears feel hot, his stomach ties into knots. he's always acted like this around him, ever since they were kids, but the feeling has become so overbearing and its weighing heavy on yamaguchi's chest.

'tsukki's pale skin, and his honey eyes, and the way his nose scrunches when he laughs, the way he's always protected and taken care of me... he's so... perfect...' he thinks to him self, getting lost in dreams.

he shakes his thoughts away, remembering he never responded, "of course tsukki!" he said with an energetic smile.

tsukishima smiled and replied, "okay meet me at the gate after school and we'll walk back to my place together."

yamaguchi's heart skipped a beat at that last part 'together?' he thought. his chest felt warm at the thought of him and kei together. as a couple. though it was unlikely, he liked to imagine what it'd be like for him and his childhood best friend to do couple-y things with one another. he must've had a strange expression on his face because tsukishima was giving him a weird look.

he nervously stuttered out, "oh y-yea! i'll meet you there!" he said with pure excitement racing through his heart.

and with that two walked to the school building, and went on to their classes.
