At the hospital, I was sent to a waiting room, Lilly to a delivery room.
It was about three hours later when I was allowed in.
Lilly was holding two babies, smiling. A nurse was beside her, fiddling on a computer.
"You can go in," The doctor who had brought me here, said.
I walked in, a bit nervous.
My babies, I thought, smiling.
I knelt beside her, smiling.
"These are our children, John."
Yes. Our children.
I held one of the babies. The girl. I cradled her, smiling. The babies were crying. Life was anew. The room was filled with joy.
Joy. I liked the sound of that.
"Joy! Joy, that's it! Joy!" I said, smiling.
Lilly smiled. "Baby Joy. I like it. What about our son's name? and the middle names?" She asked me.
"You decide the boy's middle name and first name. I'll decide Joy's." I said.
Silence. But good silence. A while later, I said, "Anne. Joy Anne Caulier."
Lilly smiled. "That's beautiful," she said, "how about this: Gage Smith Caulier."
I smiled. "Gage is my son," I said. I looked down at Joy. "My daughter is Joy Anne," I held her closer to me, gently.
Lilly smiled and kissed the top of Gage's head.
From death to new life, my family has descended to increased.
Let me tell you; this adventure was a wild ride.
But, I have my family.
