Nathan and Karen were in the front seat of the car while I was in the back as Nathan drives down the highway.
He bangs the steering wheel repeatedly, in frustration as I just sat there, frozenin shock.
A car beeps, nearly hitting us. He swerves over to the shoulder, and stops the car for a moment.
He tries to recoup himself—and leans his head on the steering wheel. His face was red with sadness, confusion and anger.
Karen gently touches his cheek, and directs his head towards her, for direct eye contact.
"If we call the police, it'll give us the chance to explain things, before they jump to conclusions." She says as he nods in agreement.
"Haley and I witnessed the whole thing. As long as we're with you, you're fine. I'm not leaving you, even Haley, you understand? We're not leaving you." She says as he nods his head again but slowly.
"You have your cell?"
Nathan shakes his head as Karen checks hers—it's soaking wet.
"Shit. Mine's fried. How about yours Haley?" She asked, turning her head.
"Mine's dead." I respond as I shake my head.
Nathan looks at the clock. It reads 8:48.
We pull back on the highway and merge with traffic.
We then pull up to a packed pub. Jackie's pub.
"You guys got a fake ID?" Nathan ask as Karen and I both shake our heads.
"Alright. I'm gonna go inside, make the call, and be out in 5 minutes. Okay?" He asks, looking at us.
"5 minutes. Max." Karen says as Nathan walks out and into the pub.
"Karen. Watch Haley for me?" He asks, both of them looking at me as I just stared forward.
Karen nods her head in approvement as he walks inside.
"Hey. Haley. It's going to be alright." Karen said, trying to comfort me.
A few moments later, a police car pulls into the parking lot and slowly scans the license plates.
I then see the squad car, moving towards us as I warn Karen.
"Karen........."
When the car approaches, we start to get out of the car and hide somewhere else.

Gilly drives the speed limit, listening to local news and Nathan's name comes up, constantly.
"Cops everywhere, man. You're lucky you and your sister made it outside of town." Gilly said as he looks at Nathan in the passenger seat.
"We're lucky to even be alive." Nathan said, looking out the window.
"Check my wallet."
Nathan opens Gilly's wallet—3 fake ID's with Nathan's picture on them.
"What's all this?" Nathan asked, holding all three IDs.
Nathan scabs through the IDs—Virginia, New York, California. Different names are listen on each card.
"Wow."
"This is my finest, finest work, dude. What you are holding, are works of art."
"Thanks, man."
"You need a gun?"
Gilly lifts up a blanket on the back seat. An assortment of handguns are hidden underneath.
