HALEY's POV

It was a brand new day and Kevin and Mara decided to leave the area, leaving me with Nathan to watch over me but instead of watching me, he decides to bring me to a party.

I sat in the backseat with Nathan as his friends Gilly and Jake are in the front, driving to the party as they laugh throughout the whole ride.

A few moments later, the car pulls up into a large party scene outside someone's house. Music blasts from the outdoor speakers, as Nathan, Gilly, Jake and I get out of the car.

When we enter the house, Nathan, Gilly, and Jake squeeze through the crowd, looking for the kitchen while I just hang out in the living room with my phone.

I then overhear Gilly talking to two jocks, with their football jackets on.

"You got the goods?" One of the jocks says, trying to be discreet.

Billy pulls out 2 fake Virginia IDs, with both of the jocks' picture on them.

The second jock grabs his ID and looks it over. He's impressed.

"How much?" the second jock asks as I pretend that I'm not listening.

"50 each," Gilly said, being serious.

The jocks shell out the cash and hand it over.

As the jocks leave, I overhear Gilly whisper to Nathan.

"Welcome to your twenties."

Suddenly, Nathan accidentally bumps into Karen Lowell, 18, skinny and pretty brunette.

"Hi," Nathan says, being awkward.

Just then, Karen's boyfriend, Billy Wilkinson, 19, slightly pushes Nathan out of the way, so he and Karen can get by.

Karen laughs a little at Nathan and then disappears into the crowd with Billy.

I then realize that it was getting late so I walked up to Nathan to tell him that I want to go home but he ignores me.

So we had to stay there for the whole night as I slept on the couch until the morning.

MORNING

I wake up and find out that I was in an unknown living room on the couch. Then I remember what happened last night.

I look around the room to see that everyone has gone home so I got off the couch to find Nathan.

When I got outside, I found Nathan lying face down on the front lawn, passed out, holding a plastic cup with beer.

I then see a girl about to wake him up but I stopped her to tell her that I would do it.

I walked up to Nathan and bent down to his level, lightly shaking him to get up.

Not a second later, he raises his head, with a line of drool coming out.

"Wake up, bro. I overheard that the girl's parents were gonna be here in an hour so we have to get out of here." I tell him, standing over him.

Nathan looks around. He had no idea where he was.

"Shit," he whispers, looking at me with worry.

"Sorry, Haley. We should've left earlier. Are you okay?" he asks as he gets up and finds his shirt as he puts it on.

"Fine. I slept on the couch." I told him as we both decided to help out with the cleaning.

Not a few minutes later, our dad, Kevin drives up to the driveway and gets out of the car with his arms crossed over his chest, glaring at Nathan.

"Get in the car. Now." We drop the trash bags in our hands and starts to walk towards the car.

Dad starts to drive the car with Nathan in the passenger seat and me in the back.

"Nathan..... Under the description of 'dad', does it say he has to pick up his drunken son and his 16-year-old daughter that you were supposed to watch over from random people's front lawns, as a general rule? Because this is the third time this year." He says, clearly scolding Nathan as he keeps his eyes on the road.

"Please don't tell mom." Nathan pleads as dad stares at the road.

"Mom already knows," he says as Nathan hangs his head down.

"It's not my fault they keep leaving me on the front lawn."

"It's your fault for trusting them to bring you home, especially with your sister. You were supposed to be watching her," Dad says, nodding his head to me.

"She was fine. She was on the couch on her phone," he says, looking out the window.

"Besides, they were having a laugh at your expense. Which is all fine and good. But trust needs to be earned."

"Like I trust you'll tell mom I wasn't drinking and that I was clearly watching Haley?" Dad laughs as he looks at Nathan.

"Not gonna happen. You're on your own, kiddo."

"Don't you have any power in our household?"

"Nope."

Nathan looks at dad in discouragement.

We then arrived home as mom gave me a big hug and turned towards Nathan with a glare.

"Are you serious? Bringing your sister to a party? Do you have any idea what would've happened to her if you weren't there to watch her?" She asked with her hands on her hips.

"I'm sorry. I should've stayed home and watched her." Nathan apologized as he starts to make his way upstairs.

I said goodnight to mom and dad and went up to my room and jumped on my bed, feeling pooped from not sleeping on a bed.

I tend to fall asleep due to the comfort of my bed and warmness of my blanket.
