The Americas were once a very strange and dangerous place. This was due to the unfamiliarity of the land, hostilities with natives, and dangerous wildlife. But the westward expansion eventually culled the land of the dangers. The colonist adapted to the land and the beasts were either directly or indirectly wiped out. The natives though suffered the worst fate. The natives were either wiped out or forced into reservations on scale that hasn't been surpassed since.
The one thing these events caused was the gestation and birth of new folklore and legends. Some of these were shared by the natives and some were entirely new. The thing is this isn't a rare occurrence. It happens with every culture especially when countries gets colonized. This because our species' love for sharing stories. The thing is though the americas have some of the most unique and creepy cryptids.
For those who don't know what a cryptid is. A cryptid is an animal whose existence or survival is disputed or unsubstantiated. Some of the most famous examples are Bigfoot, The Loch Ness Monster, and The Chupacabra. Two of these cryptids are from the americas. Some of you might be saying what about the Yeti and Yowie. I will agree that the idea of Bigfoot is not from the Americas. The tales of wild hairy men are wide spread and come from practically every part of the world. But the name and popularity of these types of creatures come from the Bigfoot craze of the mid-20th century in America.
Bigfoot being one of America's trademark cryptids has a lot of "evidence" and encounters. The idea of Bigfoot comes from the natives of the pacific northwest. The second most popular name for this creature, Sasquatch, comes from the Salish. Many different tribes have different names for the same creature. Again this isn't something secluded to the Americas. Many other cultures and it's people have names for these creatures. The Yeti and Yowie are a testament to this. But North America is a hotspot these creatures.
Bigfoot can be a benevolent forest guardian or a vicious forest devil. There are many accounts of both temperaments. But most lean toward of a hyper intelligent ape who doesn't want to be seen. Yet there are thousand of encounters and sightings of Sasquatch out there. A supporter, Bob Gylman, (who I respect and enjoy his content) says these are the young ones who haven't learned about or encountered people yet. I do not support or deny the existence of these creature but I am skeptical of their existence. But the stories and encounters are some the most fun tales out there. If you want learn more about Bigfoot and don't want a Finding Bigfoot level of "evidence" or examples. Go watch Bob Gylman, he is far less dogmatic than the typical Bigfoot supporter. He is also well spoken and use other apes out there as analogs.
So after that long winded explanation of Bigfoot. I just want to say cryptids whether you believe them or not. Are some of the greatest and fun stories out there. They have always been a large interest in my life. So because of this love of these tales and encounters. I going to try and create fun, orignal, and entertaining stories about these creatures. I will devote a couple of paragraphs explaining or giving background of the creatures. I will also give a general description of the creature if it does not ruin the story. So come along with me as we explore these great and wonderful creatures.
