I knew it was morning, I just refused to open my eyes to face the heartbreaking scene. Every now and then, the door would open to reveal nurses and other doctors checking in on him before leaving.
The others were up too. John and Freddie talked for awhile before leaving to go take a smoke break. Roger and Michael remained.
"So, are you still into dancing?" Roger asks the teenager, trying to start up conversation.
"Yeah..." he replies before the room grows awkward and silent again.
"That's good..." I head Roger mumble in return.
"Why'd you do it? Have an affair with my mum I mean," Michael asks making me listen more closely to the conversation.
"Well...I loved her, I still do, and... sometimes people need a break. Try something new I guess."
'He was somewhat right. I was getting a bit bored of the little activity Brian gave me. Brian... god why do I always fuck stuff up?!'
"Oh... um... can I ask you something a bit... weird?" He replies, nervousness filling his tone.
"Sure, go ahead."
"I hate to ask this but, if dad were to be gone, would you...take his place?"
'Damn it Michael, not this again...'
Roger pauses for a moment before replying. "It would mostly be up to your mother. But, all I can say is I'm always there for her if she needs anything. She means the world to me."
As Michael was about to reply, I felt a slight movement in my hands allowing my head to shoot up to check on Brian. Just as I hoped, his eyes were slowly but surely, fluttering open.
I rise from my chair and hover over him as I finally see the color in his beautiful hazel eyes. "Brian? Oh god, your okay..." I mumble as I begin to cry softly again. Roger and Michael gather around me while the guitarist slowly regained his memory.
"Izzy?" He mumbles squinting his eyes at the bright sunlight shown through the window.
"Yeah darling, I'm right here..." I whisper cupping his face and gently stroking his cheek with my thumb.
"Oh god, Izzy... ah..." he says trying to sit up but only to be lowered back down by the pain in his chest where he had broken his ribs.
"Don't move darling. You've fractured some ribs and just came out of surgery." I say helping him get comfortable under the blankets of his.
"I...What?" He asks as if he didn't understand a word I was saying.
"You broke your ribs genius," laughed Roger as Brian pulled a small smile.
"God I swear, all I can remember is coming up to an intersection and totally skidding off the road." He laughs but soon stops after feeling the same pain once again. His eyes then look up to meet Michaels. "Hey Michael...I"
"I'm sorry dad..." is all he says as he tries to hold in his tears. "I'm really... really sorry," he sniffs turning red in embarrassment as he begins to cry.
"Oh Michael, Come here..." He says motioning over where I was at. He leans in and gives him a hug as gently but as loving as he could. "I know you didn't mean it and besides, it's not your fault I thought driving in the rain was a good idea." He says with a chuckle before breaking the hug to smile at him pridefully.
Suddenly Freddie and John come in only to be shocked by Brian's awakening. "How long have you been up?" Freddie asks, hurrying over to the side of the bed. "God you worried me sick did you know that?"
"Did I now?" He replies with a small chuckle as he jokingly shakes his head. "Hello Deaky." He smiles, turning to the quiet bassist.
"How are you feeling Bri?" He asks trying hard not to cry as he forced a small smile.
"Sore, kinda off, but over all okay." He says with a comforting smile as Deaky nodded his head in return.
The door is heard as the doctor walks in to find all of us crowding the guitarist. "Ah your up. How're feeling Mr. May?" He asks as Freddie and Michael step out of the way so the doctor could check on him.
"I'm doing alright. So, apparently I was in surgery?" He asks furrowing his eyebrows while the doctor checked all his fluids and monitors.
"Indeed you were. We had found some internal bleeding that occurred from the crash. We stopped most of it but you still lost some blood and will need to stay in the hospital for a few days. In the meantime, we want to do some more CT scans and some MRIs just to check if the bleeding is clear." He says with a sympathetic smile.
"That's great, thanks doc," he replies with a sigh before turning to me. "I guess I'll be here for awhile."
"And I'll stay right here with you," I reply placing a kiss on his lips. "Do you need anything else?"
"I think I'll fine for now. I don't really feel like eating or anything." He replies with a small smile.
"John, Freddie, Roger, can we speak outside for a sec?" I ask the three boys who exchange looks before nodding yes. I walk out of the room with them behind me before turning to speak with them.
"What's on your mind Iz?" John asks as I tap my foot anxiously.
"Okay, since we're gonna be here awhile, we should at least do something for ourselves. Like, should we rent a hotel and take shifts at the hospital?"
"I'm not sure, I've never really had to deal with something like this before." Freddie replies crossing his arms and popping a hip out.
"See, I don't know. There's a hotel across the street from the hospital. I say we can stay there." I reply allowing all three of them to nod in agreement.
"Who's gonna take the first shift?" Roger asks looking around at us until John raises his hand.
"I'll do it. Been meaning to just chat with him for awhile." He replies, putting his hand down.
"Okay great, I can go second, Freddie you can third, and Roger you'll go last. We'll just repeat it until he's allowed to go back home. Is this all okay with Veronica, John?" I ask, worried about my poor friend taking care of her 6 children all at once.
"Yeah, she told me to stay as long as I have to and she'll be fine." He replies as I nod in return.
And so, the cycle begins...
