January 2017

You're probably not supposed to be here, but you don't care and neither do the Myler's! Today is the day that your best friend comes home from his mission!!

Tanner has been gone for two whole years and you've missed him terribly! Not only because he's your best friend, but also because you have been in love with him since way before his mission, when he was in a band called Beyond 5.

You missed hanging out with him and texting til two in the morning. He always knew exactly what to say when you were having a hard time while babysitting. But you knew that going on a mission would be good for him and you loved to see how much he grew in the gospel in his weekly emails.

You were very faithful while he was gone. You emailed him every week, and he trusted you so much that you were the one who was secretly running his twitter account for him while he was gone. The only other people who knew were Dorothy (who left on her own mission a few months before Tanner and returned last April) and Natalie. But you know that they haven't told a single soul.

You're waiting with the Mylers at the baggage claim, where Tanner should be coming out any minute.

"You ready?" Spencer says, giving you a side hug. You've been talking to him while Tanner was gone and He knows how you feel about Tanner. He promised that he wouldn't tell him while he was on his mission because you wanted to tell him yourself.

"Kind of." You sigh. You don't really know what to expect. You've been biting your lip all week because you're so nervous.

"Well, it will be alright, I'm sure." He says, smiling.

You look up at him and smile. "Thanks, Spence."

You're tall, but Spencer is taller by about a foot. You remember being a teensy bit taller than Tanner, but that doesn't bother you at all. He was still a sweet, cute guy, and now he's a sweet, cute, Spanish speaking hunk!

Finally, a whole flood of missionaries come through the big doors. You look through the crowd to try to find Tanner, but can't see him. You keep looking and looking, then finally, it's like your heart stops.

There he is. His beautiful, perfect face. His skin is a little darker than before because he got a small tan from being in Sunny McAllen, Texas for about twenty-two months (the first two were spent at the MTC in Mexico where he learned Spanish).

He spotted Spencer, then you, then his dad, then his mom and ran to her and hugged her. They stood there for a few minutes, his mom crying on his suit. During that time, you just looked at him and how much he had changed. He had grown a foot taller than before his mission, so that means he was taller than you now!

Wow, you think. He's so different. But it doesn't even matter to you. You still love him and can't wait to catch up on all of the things he's missed!

He hugs his dad, then Spencer, who is now only taller than him by an inch. He continues to hug his sisters and his little brothers, who both went through a huge growth spurt while he was gone!

Then he turns to you. You open your arms to hug him, but he sticks his hand out. You frown and look at his hand, then at him.

"I'm still a missionary, you know." He says, giving you that crooked smile that makes you melt and ... was that a wink?

You shake his hand, thinking that you can gladly wait til he's released for a hug. His family had already grabbed all his luggage and so all of you left out the door to the van in the parking lot.

See part Two
