(Y/n) POV:
My eyes shot open as I heard the sharp and recognizable of one of our caretakers, Ms.Edith. I jolted up as she sang again with a voice that can shatter all the stained windows in this place ,and my ears! "RISE AND SHINE CHILDREN, THE SUN IS ALREADY UP AND YOU HAVEN'T OPENED YOUR EYES YET" She sang like she's in an operarium "YOU HAVE 15 MINUTES TO GET READY, you don't want to miss the delicious meal that our lovely Gladis prepared today!" She said that last part a bit quiter thankfully. Gladis was our lunch lady, she was a very sweet old lady, but you'll be surprised at the fact that her food isn't as sweet. The thought of another weird combination of slop made my stomach churn, bleck!
I wore a (S/f/c) shirt today with a pair of shorts, brushed my teeth, washed my face, combed my hair, and rushed downstairs. I wasn't paying attention so I bumped into Someone, presumably smaller than me, "HEY, watch it...." the little voice said "I'm sorry!" I quickly apologized and looked down to see that the tripped over boy was none other than my best friend, Shay. "SHAY!? Oh my goodness I'm so sorry, are you okay, are you bleeding, did anything break!?" I quickly swept the boy in an overprotective embrace as I quickly got very bearing again "Stop it Y/n, you're doing the thing again.." he whined, his voice muffled with his face buried in my chest, I realized he was talking about the "overprotective fit" I fell into that happens very often, I quickly put him down apologizing again "Oh ok ok sorry......are you okay though?" I checked one more time "quit it I'm okay" he giggled. We walked together past the cafeteria, since we really weren't in the mood for a slop that we'll probably throw up later, "So, how's everything going for clearance day?" Shay said jumping in his place, I began jumping too remembering the awaited day that is tomorrow "oh I'm thrilled! I can't wait to see who'll adopt me this year!...that if is..anyone...adopted me..." I stopped jumping and so did Shay as the atmosphere was interrupted by the realization that never failed to remind no matter how much we suppressed it "dang it! It's always been that way! Hundreds of kids get adopted and we're not even any of them!" Shay yelled kicking the toy car by his feet across the play room in frustration, I put my arm around him in reassurance " well this year is going to be different! I can feel it, we are going to get adopted, and it's going to be to the best family ever!" "You say that every year! For just how long are we going to believe this lie? For how many years are we going to wait for the day until they eventually kick us out of here!?" Shay yelled now his eyes started to dwell with tears, I hug him tightly and whispered "well...that's all we have for now..to believe, to hope, to wish in the sky everynight all night...because even if we want to, that's all that's gonna do us any good..." I play with his hair for a bit until he pushes me off trying to brighten the mood "well! On the bright side, if I didn't get adopted this year, I'll guess I'll just take your favorite swing then!" I chuckle "Well what if I also didn't get adopted dummy?" "Then I get to spend another year with my best friend!" He lightly punches my shoulder and I ruffle his hair as we continue to play with the toys. The day goes on as usual, I was really ecstatic for tomorrow, a bit too ecstatic I didn't get much sleep that night, I could tell Shay didn't either
Clearance day is the day where adoption is open all day, as the orphanage tries to clear space for more children everyday every year.
