SCOTT:

The shop was running slower than usual today. My employees continued to clean up the kitchen and make the pastries. I hoped that people would show up. It's never been this down. Never. I sighed and walked to the back of the shop. Finances have been worse than ever this month. With us barely having any business, the shop will definitely get shut down. I cringed at the thought. This is what I've worked for, for my whole life. It can't get taken away from me now.

KIRSTIE:

I'm going to apply for my first job today. I was walking though the streets yesterday, when I saw an 'employees needed' sign on a coffee shop. After arguing with myself for a few hours, I decided that I was going to apply for the job. In all honesty, I'm terrified. I have never worked before. My parents never let me apply for a job. They told me that they would handle everything. That was a lie. If they could handle everything, then maybe they wouldn't be in jail.

I guess I will just have to bring Carter along with me. I hope they don't mind. Kevin was busy today so I really had no other choice. I parked my car in front of the coffee shop. My hands started to shake. What if I don't get the job? How will I care for Carter and myself? I started thinking of the worse things possible. I looked back at my brother and he smiled at me.

"You're gonna do great, Sissy! I know you will!" he smiled more and unbuckled his carseat, "Come on, come on! Let's go!" I just laughed and turned the car off. He always knows how to help.

I walked into the shop hesitantly. There was barely anyone in the place. I told my little brother to sit in one of the booths while I talked to the cashier.

"Uhm.. Hi. I'm Kirstin Maldonado and I was wondering if i could apply for a job here?" I looked up at the lady, hopefully.

She smiled, "Of course! Let me go talk to my boss first and then I will be back." I nodded and looked at Carter. A few minutes later, the woman came back with papers in her hand.
"If you could, please fill these out and then we will talk after." she handed the papers to me and I walked over to the booth to fill them out.

It took a while to fill out all 7 pages but, I finally finished. I looked over them a few times to make sure everything was right before walking back up to the counter. The girl took the papers and walked into the back again. The next time she came out, she brought a man with her.

"This is my boss. He will be asking you questions to make sure you are ready for the job." I nodded slowly and looked over at him.

"Thank you Jemma. I can take it from here." He shooed her away and smiled at me. "Kirstin right?" I nodded again. "Scott Hoying. I am the manager here as you already know." he stuck his hand out for me to shake it and I did.

"First question: How old are you?"

"I am 18 years old."

He nodded. "Okay. Why are you applying for this job?"

I froze. I didn't think they would ask this question. I fiddled with my hands as I answered, "Uh.. my parents recently got put in jail and I-i have to take care of my little brother and myself, alone." I didn't look at him as I told this.

SCOTT:

Woah. That's a lot for an 18 year old. I couldn't imagine having to do that. I decided to quickly change the subject, seeing that she clearly didn't like talking about the situation. "Um. Okay next question: What is your biggest strength or weakness?"
