It had been 4 years since the pair had lost their families and friends and neighbors in the bombing of Himmel street
Rudy had gotten a house for them  a year prior to now
Rudy: honey I'll be back I'm going to the market real quick stay here
Forty minutes go by and Liesel starts to worry about the lemon haired boy, being in a place with all Americans around Rudy never allowed her to be outside alone because of fear of her being attacked for her aryan looks. Despite her physical appearance Liesel was a genuine kind soul with a old Jesus friend whom she never really saw again she wished for his safe return to home but she didn't quite know what had happened to Max... she could only hope for the best. Her soul was light and selfless.
Liesel made her way down to the streets as she was out and about someone grabbed her
Liesel screamed
Rudy: Jesus Mary and Joseph what the hell are you doing out here alone?
Liesel: I was worried about you.
Rudy: I know honey I'm sorry but you can't be outside alone do you know what could've happened to you because of where you are? He opened the door to their home and carried Liesel inside
The boy had been protective over his girl for many years any guy that came in contact with Liesel Rudy would be quick to make sure the guy knew she was off limits
Even hearing about Max pissed Rudy off
Even though he was like a brother to Liesel.
Rudy: do you understand ma lady why it isn't safe for you to be out there alone?
Liesel sighed and gave a quick "ja"
And went upstairs and slammed the door to get study.
Rudy ran up to her study and lightly knocked on the door
Gently he said
Rudy: Liesel honey I'm sorry can you let me in?
Liesel didn't respond but she just sat against the wall under her desk scared of the boy with Lemon hair he had never freaked out on her before...
The boy picked the lock and came into find no one in there but soon after a few minutes he found the girl curled up under her desk
She flinched at his touch
Rudy: Liesel baby you didn't think I was going to hit you did you?
Liesel nodded
Rudy: sweetie I would never do that to you he pulled her up to his lap against the wall as she sobbed the boys heart broke for the second time for her...
He carried her to their room and put her down as he made his way out the girl asked
Liesel: Rudy? Stay with me?
Liesel: of course my book thief
The girl was scratching her fingers they both did that when they had the urge to steal
Rudy: wanna steal something sameunsch?
Liesel: yeah, your heart
Rudy: already did that princess...
He leaned in and kissed her for the longest time...
She curled up to him as he wrapped his arm around her
He could've stayed like that forever...
