Four infected. That's all we needed to kill. Should be easy enough.
Lexus walked toward the infected even though she was shaking violently. Her job was to get them facing away from us, so we could take them out from behind. Danny, Devon and I were waiting quietly behind the trees for perfect moment as we watched Lexus run around the infected and wave her hands in the air.
"Over here", She hollered with a nervous voice. The infected took notice to the new bag of flesh for their feasting.... or so they thought. As soon as they headed toward her we hopped out of the bushes. I headed toward my target as it sped toward Lexus as a decent pace. As I got closer its moans and groans rang out in my ear just as the others did. I quickly took out my knife and grabbed onto the infected, driving into its brain. The knife went straight through the back of the skull hitting the brain, causing the infected to fall limp. I has successfully killed my monster. I turned to the boys and saw that Devon had just grabbed onto his second target and drove the giant knife into its eyeball.
But then I noticed Danny. He had his target pinned to the ground, as he lay under it with his back against the ground. He was struggling to get the knife into the infected corpse head. it looked like he was trying to flip himself over and get on top of the infected.
"We need to help him", Lexus begged as she ran up next to me. She was right. This was my brother. I wanted to let him handle it himself, but I could see his struggle. I stepped toward Danny and stabbed the infected right in between the eyes. I pulled my knife back out and stood back.
Danny through the thing off him and stood up, looking toward me. "Uhhhhh..... Thanks", he murmured wiping off the dirt on his shirt.
Devon walked over and patted Danny's shoulder. "You okay"? He questioned.
"I'm fine", He replied sharply. "It just turned around last minute and had to get it down. I'm just a little rusty. I haven't really been training as much since dad left". It was obvious that Danny had been lacking on his training. He had let his guard down after dad left and decided that training could wait, while I continued to try to improve. I just hope that if we get in a more difficult situation, then Danny's training will kick in and he will be able to handle himself.
"Okay. well let's keep walking. the town should be no more than two miles ahead", Devon commented. We all nodded our heads and turned to keep walking.
-----
We walked hit the main road not much later. it was a short walk until we starting seeing buildings. "So do you think there are going to be a lot of infected in the town"? Lexus asked, breaking our silence.
"Possibly", Devon responded. "There is no way of knowing until were there. But we need to be quick and quiet. It's best not to linger or leave ourselves out in the open. We have no idea what or who could be hanging around in this town", Devon responded. There was this smell of just... death. I noticed a decaying body as we walked farther down the street. I saw Lexus holding her nose and grasping on to Danny from my peripheral vision. Devon was looking toward the body too. his face showed a saddened expression as he quickly diverted his attention to the multiply buildings.
"Right over there", Devon pointed out to the building ahead. On top of the building it read, "Shelby public library". The library! Inside I was cheering, for the fact that we had accomplished finding the library. Now I just hoped that there were the maps we needed inside.
"Wait..." Devon stopped as we all stopped too. Then I heard it. It sounded like a car. It also sounded like it was heading right toward us. "Hurry", Devon remarked and then started to sprint to the library. We all followed as he rushed to throw the door open. As we all rushed in he closed the door firmly and gestured for all of us to get down. As we all ducked it suddenly hit me. I hope there are no infected lying around in here.
