(Harry’s P.O.V.)
I heard my door open and I looked up as Kelsey strode into my living room. “Morning,” she said cheerfully.
“Morning. What are you doing here?” I asked, rubbing my eyes. I had gotten out of bed an hour ago, but I wasn’t quite awake yet.
“I need a favor,” she mumbled. I groaned and buried my head in a pillow.
“No,” I said, my voice muffled by the pillow in my mouth. She stomped her foot on the floor like a child and dropped to the ground, hanging her head.
“But I need you!” she whined. I laughed and raised my eyebrows at her.
“You sound like you’re four.”
“I am four…plus fourteen,” she added with a cheeky wink. I rolled my eyes.
“What do you need?”
“I need you to drive me to Charlotte’s house,” she said, standing up and walking over to me.
“Why can’t you drive?” I asked. She sat down on the couch and laid her head in my lap and made puppy dog eyes at me.
“Because it’s one of my rules. And last time I failed my driver’s test, I hit a mailbox. And a turtle. And a lamppost.”
I laughed. “You’re never driving me anywhere. Why couldn’t Louis do it?” I asked.
“Because he’s sleeping. Pleeeeeeease Hazza,” she begged. I sighed and shook my hair.
“Only because you begged, peasant.”
“YUS!” she exclaimed, jumping up and pumping her fist. I laughed and pushed her down while she did a happy dance and she stumbled and landed on my coffee table on her back.
“Why do you need to go to Charlotte’s house anyway?” I asked. She rolled her eyes and proper herself up on her elbows.
“Harry, we’re girls. We need to see each other. That’s why,” she said as if this was obvious.
“Oh, sorry. I have no idea how I didn’t guess,” I said sarcastically. She flicked my forehead.
“You’re a loser.”
“That’s no way to treat your driver,” I said seriously.
“Your head could be pudding,” she said, staring at my hair. I frowned and grabbed my curls.
“My head does not look like pudding!”
“Okay. Come on, let’s go,” she said, standing up and pulling me to my feet. She ran out to the garage and waited by the car while I got the keys. We started driving and I hummed along to the radio while Kelsey drummed her fingers on the window.
“So, do you do anything?” I asked. She looked at me, creasing her forehead in confusion.
“Well, I walk. I talk. I eat. I can do a few tricks – ”
“No, like, what do you do for fun?” I corrected. She sighed and contemplated this, staring out the window.
“I dance. A lot. I got a scholarship for dancing at school, but…” she trailed off, leaving her words hanging in the air. I studied her. She did seem to have a dancer’s body.
“But what?” I asked. She cleared her throat.
“But I got expelled,” she muttered. I raised my eyebrows.
“You did what? Why? How?” I asked, firing questions at her. She swallowed and looked down.
“Um, I went a little out of control after my family…well anyway, I ended up setting the gym on fire. There was a mishap with some fireworks and…yeah. I got expelled and then they took me to Simon,” she mumbled. I stared at her, not quite knowing what to say. Then I smiled.
