"Mr. Gleason, you asked the right question. Who is he?"
The investigator waved him off, still choking from the altercation before. I patted his back and he shot me a hard glare as he finally stood on his own.
"Well... Who the hell is he?" My own voice shot out.
"I don't know. That's why I brought you guys here." Dan said this in his usual matter-of-fact tone. " I went on that research trip recently to Africa. Nothing exciting was planned. It was just to view some cultural notes but," he talked with his hands which distracted me for a second. Dan tended to make motions like he was arguing his innocence to a judge. "I found him in the wild next to this tiny village. There was a rainforest that was forbidden to go to as well because of how dangerous it was because of the ape problem-"
The investigator now known as Mr. Gleason ambled towards Dan. He waved the air around him, stopping Dan's monologue. "Cut the shit. There's a homicidal man in a cage. You hired us for what? Keep it simple."
"He's a wild man." Dans voice shot out and a shit-eating grin spread across his face.
"Like Tarzan?" The blonde man laughed in disbelief.
"Exactly."
My brain swarmed with so many thoughts. There had to be some human rights conflicts and a bunch of legal issues with this. How much was he consenting to be in the cage? By the looks of it, he was upset and the opposite of docile.
Should a grown man not be able to be wild if he chooses?
I glanced back in the cage. At some point, the man had shifted to the other side of the cage. He crouched onto the floor, hands lightly grazing the ground. I knew better than to step forward thanks to Mr. Gleason's mistake.
Ethically I was on the fence.
Secretly, there was a silent thrill that went through me. The excitement of being apart of something that I normally would never be apart of. This seemed like a once in a lifetime experience for someone like me.
"His name is Adisa... well that's what the villagers called him." Dan paused a moment before wringing his hands together, "I know it may not look like it but he begged to be here. As Mr. Gleason just saw, he does not have the temperament yet to not be allowed to roam outside of the cage. That's why you guys are here. I need some assistance reintroducing him into the new world. We have an doctor for medical checks, an educator, and a private investigator to help this unfortunate man."
"What am I here for?" The blonde man spoke up.
"You're the muscle. An accomplished body guard should be enough to subdue Adisa if anything else happens."
" I'm a director at a public library, for Christ's sake. I'm not equip to train a physically adult man from scratch." My voice felt as shaky as my nerves. My hands clutched the hems of my coat as everyone turned to me.
"Another key in this that there may be a possible lead to where his family is. The villagers said that a group of missionaries from New York visited
" And I have access to a most public records in the state."
"Bingo!" Dan did a little dance before continuing, " I want you all to consider this job. Of course, this will take you away from any work you're currently doing but I am willing to pay you handsomely."
A man came from a random door. The dress of this man was almost military and his resolve was impenetrable. He quietly handed us packets of paper, not attempting to give us any information.
The man walked to the cage door, placing a fruit through the rails. The entire room froze as we waited for a reaction from the imprisoned man. "He does not like strangers." A heavy accent left the man's mouth and he leaned a bit more towards the cage.
Adisa eyed everyone cautiously before trying to get the fruit. It didn't take more than a few seconds to snatch the fruit from the man's hands.
Dan sighed to get our attention back on him, "You all signed NDA's and if you pass on this offer, I will find someone else to take your spot. I recommend you all sleep on it and I'll send someone to retrieve your answer in 48 hours."
