"Mingi can you shut UP!" Seonghwa groaned from somewhere below the cushions he'd heaped over his face to avoid having to listen to Mingi's running commentary of his gameplay.
The broad shouldered boy cast a scathing and hurt look at the pile of cushions and Yuna smiled a little from her place beside the oldest member. She hadn't minded Mingi's constant chattering, it was a simple distraction from her thoughts, but she knew that the older had been trying to get some rest for half of the day now and failing everywhere else but in here until Mingi turned up.
"Sorry." Mingi mumbled, huffing out a heavy breath and turning back to his game. Wooyoung, who was home in a rare turn of events, even managed a tiny smile at the scene.
He was propped against her legs where they hung down over the edge of San's bed, because it was his room they were all piled into.
Because it was the closest they could feel to the missing member without being beside him at the hospital.
"It's fine, Min. I'm sorry for snapping." Seonghwa sighed, unearthing himself from his cushion pile and blinking under the sudden harsh light of the room. Mingi grumbled something below his breath, earning a light smack from Wooyoung.
Seonghwa yawned, running his fingers through his hair out of habit, which had almost fully grown back out to his natural brown. He glanced up at the clock then over at Yuna, eyebrow raised questioningly.
"Do you not want to go today?" She shook her head, glancing down to meet Wooyoung's gaze.
"You were asleep, I didn't want to wake you."
"We can still go, if you want." He offered, glancing over at Wooyoung. She nodded quickly, waiting for everyone else to stand before she did. Even Mingi abandoned his game, shoving his feet into his shoes and joining everyone in the car.
He didn't often come to see San, finding it hard to look at him just laying there and be unable to do anything.
Well not that she didn't have that problem... they all did.
She stared out the window of the front passenger seat as they drove to the hospital. It had been four months now in total that San had been laying motionless in that bed.
Two months since she'd come home from the hospital and a week since the news of the capture of her tormentors was given to her by the police.
She was finally safe, and free.
But there was still a person shaped hole inside her, a huge chunk of her life and happiness that was missing and would be until he woke up.
Slowly she'd lost confidence and hope in being able to see the bright light in his eyes again. But she held onto it anyway, because what else did she have?
The boys had begun preparing for an album. A standalone to give the fans something, anything, while they all waited for San.
Most days they weren't back in until late, dripping in sweat from dance rehearsal or croaky voiced from recording.
It was their livelihood, their passion. But without him it was all worthless to them and the only passion going into what they did now was for him.
She didn't know what she would do, what any of them would do if San didn't wake up.
She'd spent countless hours pouring over articles of coma patients.
Some were only in it for months, some for years.
And of course... some never woke up.
She'd spent as many hours writing and rewriting down every single thing that had happened to her those two months ago.
She didn't get nightmares anymore.
"We're here." She slid herself out of the car, forcing one foot in front of the other down the memorised route to San's room.
The door way already open, was the first thing she noticed.
Because it was never open when they got here, unless someone else was in there. But Yunho, Hongjoong, Jongho and Yeosang were at the recording studio until late tonight.
Heart in her throat, tears stinging her eyes she rushed to the doorway.
The floor disappeared beneath her at the interior.
"What the hell." Mingi said, voice tight with emotions and shock as the rest of them caught up and peered in over the top of her head. His hand dropped heavily to her shoulder, both weighting her down and keeping her standing.
Wooyoung let out a strangled gasp of confusion and fear from somewhere behind.
Seonghwa was deadly silent.
The room was empty.
His bed was empty.
The machines were off and the tubing abandoned on the floor.
"Where is he?" She whispered, surprised that she didn't sound as unsteady as she felt. Nobody answered, because they couldn't. Instead they all stared into the empty room as if the answer would jump out at them if they stayed there wordlessly.
"Hello?" A man, tall and stocky in build, appeared from behind them and everyone spun in shock to face him. Judging by his attire he was a doctor and Seonghwa was first to speak, his fingers wrapping around Yuna's wrist in a steadying hold.
"Our friend was in this room. Where is he?" There was no icy edge to the eldest's voice like there usually was, just a pleading tone that carried his voice unnaturally loud.
The doctor glanced inside the room and then back at us, realisation dawning in his eyes.
For a moment she dreaded the worst and her knees gave way, even Seonghwa and Mingi's grips on her failed to keep her upright. Wooyoung joined her on the ground, looking stunned and in disbelief.
The doctor stepped back in surprise, concern on his face.
"San right? Choi San?" A female voice interrupted and Mingi spoke this time, apparently being the only one capable as Seonghwa leaned heavily against the doorway, face pale.
"He's our friend yes." A nurse stepped around the doctor, glancing down at Yuna and Wooyoung on the floor.
"You can get up, I'll take you to him." They stood quickly, holding tight to one another and Seonghwa straightened, seeming to gain strength from the words. But Mingi fixed her with an indignant stare, crossing his muscled arms over his chest.
"Where is he? Why isn't he in here?" For a moment she looked taken by surprise, gaze switching between each expectant face before her.
"You didn't know?" When they all shook their heads, a tiny smile crossed her face.
"He woke up."
