The human mind is capable of funny things when you are hungry. Ember had been held in that dark cell for over a week now, of course she didn't know this. She had no way to tell how long she was there; days, weeks, months, years. Time did not exist in the dark room. She had only seen light twice since she had been in there. Once when she was injected with the mysterious blue liquid, and the other when the slot that the food slipped in though. Her eyes were accustomed to the dark by now. She could see the outline of the chain sprawled on the floor next to her, she could see a small bump where the chain met the ground, and the outline of the door. She could imagine the room she was in though. She paid enough attention when she was gassed to notice where the sound was coming from so she knows where the vent is, she also could tell it was too small to climb out through and her chains wouldn't spread that far. The weird hunger dream she had started to open her eyes and give her a shred of hope. No one is coming, but she knew she had to find a way out.
In her dream she was walking through a wintery forest, it was daylight and the white snow glistened, she wasn't cold in her dream however. She walked through the enchanting forest and could hear the wind whispering in her ear. As she wandered and wandered she forgot that she wasn't at home in her warm bed. Her stomach still yearned for food so she looked around for berries to try to eat. Instead she found a deer like woman. The woman was creepy looking but she didn't give off an aura of violence and fear. As she grew nearer she could see the look of pain sadness and hunger in the deer woman's eyes. She wanted to help her but before Ember spoke the woman did.
"Who are you?" The woman asked with a thick accencent Ember didn't recognise.
"I'm here to help." Ember told the woman. At her words the woman looked confused.
"Why would you help me you are hungry too, your alone and afraid, you don't know me." The woman said. Ember stared for a moment, the woman was right, she didn't need to help her but she was raised to always be kind.
"I may be, but you need help. As the words slid out of Ember's mouth a cut sliced down the deer woman's side, dark purple blood fell from the wound.
"Your hurt, let me help" Ember moved to the woman's side and helped her lay down, and the woman looked almost dumb founded at Ember's kindness.
"Your kindness is welcome my dear, but you don't need to help me I'm already dead," She looked at her wound and back up " Save yourself girl, survive for you may never know what kindness and karma can do." And with this the woman closed her eyes and her body lit on fire and evaporated with the flames, and just like that she was gone. A tear ran down Ember's cheek for the woman and when she looked up she saw a parked truck with two boys inside of it. She took a step closer and examined their faces, for some unknown reason they couldn't see her. She looked at the passenger side and saw a sandy haired boy, his eyes showed pain, but they were filled with a sort of mystic hope. Ember then moved to the driver's side, and saw a dark haired boy with glasses whose eyes glimmered with adventure. She saw their goofy smiles and happiness, and it made her overflow with hope, a feeling she thought she'd never feel again.
When she woke up that feeling faded. She thought it was only a dream, there was no kind deer woman, no smiley boys coming to save her. At this thought a tear ran down her face she wanted so desperately for the dream to be real, but she knew it wasn't. She was too dehydrated to cry all the way. She felt like she was drowning in sorrow. She missed her horrible family even though she knew they didn't miss her, she missed everyone, and everything. She missed not being hungry, she was getting more hungry by the second and didn't want to die here, she crawled around until she felt the food tray, picked up the food, and practically inhaled it, it tasted like heaven after not eating for so long. She banged her chains against the floor hoping that it would signal that she wanted more, she needed more, she craved more.
