Ace skipped around the cafeteria excitedly, jumping from table to table. Today was his birthday. Ace never got a visitor after he turned twelve, so he knew no one was coming. The reason the barley adult galloped in glee, was that his psyche evaluation was today, the evaluation to determine if he is a stable adult.

Ace had been here a long time and he longed for the sweet taste of freedom. He was joyful to see the new technology that is out, he was ready to meet people his own age. Loving the idea of exotic foods, all of the food here tastes terrible and he still eats a few servings. All he had to do was be honest in the eval and he didn't need to lie because he wasn't crazy. He didn't think he was. He was here because of a mistake.. Or at least that's what he tells his roommate

As time passes Ace gets more agitated, every time someone opens a door, or a phone goes off, he hates waiting for the results, they always take so long in here. After more time the door finally opens. Ace jumps up to greet the doctor, when he notices the two guys standing behind him.

"W-why are they here" Ace says motioning to the men in white.

"Well Ace, after our talk I had to make a decision on if you were threat to society or not." replies the Doctor.

"Okay, but that doesn't explain why they are with you," Ace said with annoyance dancing around his words.

"Ace you have made excellent progress here, but in my medical opinion, you aren't ready to rejoin society."

'You aren't ready to rejoin society' his heart sank at this, he didn't understand. He wasn't crazy, he was so sure he was sane. Ace did what his doctors told him, he took his meds, even though they made him feel like he was always practically asleep, he did therapy, and didn't cause problems with others. He was one of the most productive patients there. He thought that this doctor clearly must be mistaken, either that or he just hates him.

"I understand" Ace told his doctor, he put his head down and walked out of the room. Ace was purely irritated at 'doctor know-it-all' for trapping him here longer. He wanted to calm down so he went to work on his art, but the men stopped him from leaving.

"Ace you aren't going to stay here, we are transferring you to a different facility." Said the Doctor

"What, where!" Ace was not happy to hear this, not because he had made friends, but because he was comfortable, he hated it here, but the thought of somewhere new was unpleasant he would basically start at ground zero"

"You are being transferred to Glass Walls Institute for the Criminally Insane, you are an adult you can't stay in a children's hospital."

"But that's all the way across the country, and i'm not insane, or a criminal. It was an accident!"

"Now, now we both know that isn't true Ace, you have been here long enough to know that some part of you wanted to kill that man."

"No! That's not true!" Ace insisted

"He's resisting, Boys!" The two men behind the doctor stepped towards Ace and he took a step back. They moved swiftly and grabbed his wrists. 'This is not how today was supposed to go, I was supposed to leave, I was going to try new foods, and experience the world' he thought. It felt like he was floating away, like he was losing control, he felt a ball in the back of his throat, and tried not to cry. He needed to find a way out of this somehow, or it meant be locked up with murders and psychos.

Ace forced himself to stop struggling as they dragged him down the hall.

"Can I at least go to the bathroom first...please" He got no response, but they did take him over there, they patted him down, and watched him enter. Ace did the first step, he got away from the two goons after him, next he had to find a way out. Of course the window wasn't an option, A it was too small, and B it wasn't the kind you can just reach, let alone open. He started to frantically look around to find a way out. He was so desperate. That's when he noticed the vent on the wall. It felt so obvious, he was also thankful he always forgot to cut his fingernails.

Ace stepped up on the toilet and entered his nail in the screw, he tried to twist and he broke his nail. He use two fingers to make is seem stronger and somehow it worked. When the screw gave, Ace felt hope, he quickly tried to unscrew the other ones, which took a bit, but he got it. The men banged on the door and he yelled that it was a code brown, to buy himself some time. He set down the grate as quietly possible and struggled his way into the grate. Ace didn't think this far ahead.

As he inch-wormed in the vent slowly and quietly, he was thankful that these weren't active anymore, however when he pulled up to a turn he didn't know which way would get him out. He tried hard to remember which way was north and went that way. He struggled trying to sneeze quietly, in these dusty and dark ducts. He was ecstatic at the fact that he managed to pull this off, and wondered why he didn't try this sooner.

After what felt like hours Ace saw a light. He carefully crept up to the grate to see if it was outside or not. He looked and saw that he had gone in a circle. Ace was thankful that the men had already came into the bathroom and left to look for him. He carefully got down, and cracked open the door. It was night. Ace was thankful, he may not have known the exact time but there were practically no security guards at night. He moved towards the front door, and tried to open it. Locked. He felt foolish for thinking it would be this easy to leave. He went to his room to get supplies. He took his artbook, snacks he had hidden and he went to one of the supply closets and took a flashlight.

There weren't many left, he assumed they took them so they could try to find him. He broke into one of the old wings that wasn't used anymore and went to find a window to smash. He knew the noise would attract attention, but he didn't care he had to leave. He found one that was already cracked and smashed the flashlight into it causing a crash noise that probably wouldn't be heard on the other side of the building. He brushed away the broken glass and hopped through.

The cold grass touched his feet, and a cool summer breeze swept across is cheek. 'This is what freedom feels like' he thought to himself. He could see flashlights in the distance, so he ran in the other direction. Ace hadn't ran in years, he felt free, he breathed in the fresh air and sprinted away from the hell where he had spent most of his childhood. He didn't know where he was going, but he didn't care he did it. He pulled it off. He escaped.
