Chapter 16

Wally
October 2018

"Aye. Run that shit, B." I tell my longtime engineer, Barry Montgomery, as I stand in the booth with Tre.

"Shut the fuck up, nigga." Barry rolls his eyes before starting the song I wrote and produced with one of Will's beats. Empire and Star creator, Lee Daniels, wants this song for Empire. But like all of his deals with the First Family, I get to use the song for my own profits. It'll be a part of my EP being released next year.

"Well sing that shit then, Tre." I push my little brother's shoulder when we finish our fifth take of the song.

"Gimme that playback, B," Tre nods at Barry with a smile. We listen to the song with pride. "Well I'll be damn if this ain't the leading single."

"We'll see what happens with the other songs." I tease him before checking my phone. Yasmine was suppose to call me when she got off work an hour ago.

"What's wrong? You been checking your phone for the last hour." Tre asks as we walk out of the booth.

I shake my head. "Nothing. I'm just waiting on Yas to text or call me back. She hasn't said anything since her lunch break."

"She's good, bro. Probably tired. Sis still be working like she ain't got a rich ass nigga taking care of her." Tre says while flopping down on one of the sofas in his home studio. He had it built after he and Alexus moved to this large ass, seven room, ten bath mansion with two pool houses and a five car garage in the suburbs of Boston.

"Yeah, but you know Yas— she hates being taken care of. I had to beg her to basically take a black card from me. She doesn't even know about the trust or college funds I started for Jazz. Not to mention the apartment buildings I got put in their names. They have stock in the market and any business I have or will have, are executive producers for my EP and subsequent album, and I revised my will in the case of tragedy. I can't tell her any of that or she'll kill me."

"Daaaaammmmnnn." Tre and Barry whistle.

"I know it's crazy for me to do all of these for a child that isn't mine and a woman that isn't my wife but I've never felt love like this before. It's not a fake love. She isn't some gold digger. Yas is what I've been waiting for. She and Jasmine are my everything. I can't imagine not giving them the world and more." I say and Barry smiles.

"And here I thought I'd be going to a gay ass wedding two years ago," Barry teases me, causing us all to laugh. "Look, don't worry, man. She'll come around to the idea of being pampered. She's a strong ass Black woman from the OP. She's gritty like her grandma and your parents and your grandparents. You wouldn't have picked her if she wasn't amazing. She'll come around," Barry stands up. "I'll catch you later. I got a threesome lined up together and I gotta prepare."

I stand and dap Barry. "Two guys, two girls, or a guy and a girl?" I ask. Barry and I have been working together since we were teenagers. We know a lot about and share a lot with each other.

"Wouldn't you like to know," Barry smirks before dapping Tre and leaving. "I'll see myself out of this fucking mansion."

"Keep working and I'll sell it to you in twenty years!" Tre tells after Barry who yells back "Fuck you, nigga!" as we laugh. "The fuck you laughing for, Wally? Get out and go home to your girl."

"Nigga, fuck you," I punch him before pulling him into a hug. "Get Alexus and come over for dinner. I'm cooking tonight. You know I throw down almost as good as Auntie Cassie and Kim."

Our family knows the truth— Auntie Cassie and Kim are the best cooks of the family (Auntie Cassie being the best at desserts). They taught me, Ben, Q, and Lucy all that we know.
