Chapter 1
July 2018Lucy
"Oh my God. It's Lucy Tresvant!"
I smile at the employees as I walk into the Coach store with my fiancé Luke James and our daughter Lola Boyd by my side.
"We'll get pictures with everyone, we just want to shop first. Is that okay?" Luke says as we enter the store with our bodyguards Philip, Calvin, Jacob, and Henry.
"Yeah. That's perfectly okay. I'm the manager Tre." A gay Black guy walks up to us.
"Is Angel working today? She's my little cousins' friend. They told me that she started working here last month," I ask as I look around the store. I see Angel walking through the men's section. "Angel! Hey girl!"
Angel gives a shy smile. "Hey Lucy. What can I help you with?"
"We're just looking to shop. Can you believe that we haven't been in here since we moved to New Orleans?" I say as I walk around the store. "Show me everything, Angel."
"Okay." Angel nods and walks me around the store. Luke and I shop while Lola walks around touching things.
When we leave the store, we brought almost $10,000 worth of merchandise in Angel's name. I know no one will be able to top that today even if it'll be busy with Essence Fest going on.
"Bye Angel. We'll be back before you go back to school. We should set up dinner," Luke says as he hugs Angel after me. "A private dinner between me and you. How that sound?"
Angel looks at me and I smile before she answers. "I actually have a boyfriend. I don't know if he'll be happy about that."
"But what about a private dinner with me?" Michael B. Jordan, my ex-boyfriend and one of my best friends, asks as he walks into the store. Angel's face drops in excited shock. "Your boyfriend shouldn't be upset about me."
"Boyfriend who?" Angel says before running to hug Mikey and we all laugh. He takes a few pictures with her— one with a kiss on the cheek much to Angel's blushing.
"We'll set up a little something before you go back to school. We'll see you later, Angel. Let me know if you wanna come join the festivities for Essence. I'm sure I'll be able to find a few tickets for you and your friends." I say with a smile.
We leave the Coach store with smiles as we walk through the Riverwalk Outlet Mall. "Of course y'all niggas was in Coach when there was a sale. Can't never be in there without a sale." Mikey teases us as he picks up Lola.
"My nigga, I don't care who I am or who I'm with, a sale is a sale." Luke says and I laugh.
"That's right, Daddy." I pull his hand to my mouth and kiss it. He kisses mine back.
"You stay calling him Daddy like I don't dick you down better." Mikey teases and I punch him.
Since May of this year, Michael has joined Luke and I in our bed. It's been fun honestly and has bought us all closer together. We haven't told our families yet and I don't plan to. It's not their business to know.
"Sorry, Papi, but that's not true," I shake my head. "Tongue better than the dick tho."
Luke laughs as Mikey's face turns sour. We continue shopping and walking the mall— stopping to take pictures with fans along the way— until we have to make our way to the Convention Center next door. A panel with the cast of The Bobby Brown Story is being held and I need to be there.
I got to reprise my role as my aunt Stephanie Wallace-Gill of the internationally famous girl group SJC (one that my mother Cassandra Wallace-Tresvant and aunt Jacqueline Bivins were also apart of) because she is the best friend of Bobby Brown— the Bad Boy of R-n-B and member of New Edition. It was fun to play my aunt again after not playing the role in a year. And I got to yell at my actual best friend Woody McClain because he reprised his role as my Uncle Bobby and Auntie Steph was always yelling at Uncle Bobby.
