Shinsou Hitoshi.
Not the brightest person, usually sitting alone during lunch breaks and never socialising with his
classmates before the teacher enters the classroom after the breaks, unlike everyone else. And no
one really bothered talking to him. Not only he seemed quite unapproachable just by his
appearance, with the constantly tired expression, pale face, dark eyebags resting under his eyes and
his tall slim figure or his stoic personality, but mainly his quirk. He was born with a powerful quirk,
Brainwashing. He could use the mind of anyone who would reply to any of his questions, and the fear
that he would use it for villainous actions had brushed on his classmates, causing them to barely talk
to him if it was not necessarily needed. And he would live with that. He would live by saying he didn’t
need all these people to reach his main goal; being a hero. If everyone believed that he was better off
as a villain, fine. He did not want to have anything with people who just judged a book by it’s cover.
It was the last day of middle school. Shinsou was sitting in his usual bench, on the other side of the
school’s yard, away from anyone else. He had a small package containing his lunch which he was
peacefully eating, enjoying the silence with the faint buzz of the noises coming from kids on the side
he tended to avoid, when suddenly he saw two feet in front of him. His gaze shifted up,only to greet
with golden eyes and golden eyes. One of his classmates. Or schoolmates actually, they were not in
the same class. He didn’t really remember his name but he had seen him multiple times around. He
could recall a few times they had eye contact in the past, always expecting the blonde to turn away in
fear, just like everyone else, but every time he would just offer a smile before getting dragged by his
friends. Hitoshi was always weirded out but since they had never talked, he never knew why he
always smiled at him. He had never failed to brush it off until the moment he actually saw the boy
standing in front of him, staring right into his eyes,a small smile playing on his lips. Shinsou could
make out he was nervous by the light twitches on his lips and eyebrows. Probably a dare. The two
had been staring at each other for what felt like hours, probably because of the awkwardness, but was
merely a few seconds before the shorter of them spoke up.
“Hey man,um, I know you usually sit alone, dunno if it’s your ambition or not but I’ve always wanted to
talk to you for some reason…”,he said scratching the back of his neck and breaking the eye contact
looking at the side “..if..if that’s cool with your of course! I mean… it’s the last day of school so
probably my last chance to try and quit chickening out”,he finished finally looking back.
Shinsou only stared at him, disbelief covering his otherwise straight expression. Nevertheless, he
patted the spot next to him on the bench and the boy sat down smiling.
They sat down in silence as the blonde pulled out his own lunch and started eating, along with Hitoshi
who had already started before him.
“This is a dare isn’t it?”,Hitoshi finally spoke without even glancing on his side. He did hear the other
gasping and practically inhaling his food and starting choking. Hitoshi sighed and gave a small but
firm slap on the other’s back, making the food stuck on his neck finally get out.
“Dude! No way! I mean some friends have asked me to go and prank you a few times in the past but I
uh… didn’t really want to bother you. You always seem to avoid the crowds so I kinda didn’t wanna
ruin your peace,if that makes sense. I really just wanted to talk to you.”,the boy said after managing to
swallow the food properly.
Shinsou sighed yet again, this time tilting his head to look at the other.
“I don’t really believe you but whatever. What was your name again?”
He was met with a smile.
“Kaminari Denki, and it’s ok, I don’t really ever look serious so understandable”.
Kaminari Denki. Right.
Shinsou had started to believe him,he totally looked like he hadn’t understood why he was always alone. He thought
it was just him being antisocial, which he was,but deep inside,he knew he missed the company of others. He had no
idea everyone else just pushed him away. It had never passed his mind that people always gave him weird looks
and gossiped about him, even bullied him but that was long ago. He probably didn’t even know his quirk and the fact
that he could have brainwashed him by now since he had replied to his question. Maybe he didn’t care and he
genuinely wanted to get to know him,but he didn’t get his hopes up.
The indigo haired boy turned his gaze to the ground. What if…
“You really don’t know why I sit alone all the time?”
Kaminari hummed and laid back on the bench.
“If it’s the people being scared of you, I’m really sorry to know that. I’ve heard from others about your quirk and how it makes you seem unapproachable. But I don't really think your quirk is suited for bad actions. Not only at least. I know you mean no harm to anybody cause no one has actually witnessed you acting cruel or villainous towards anyone so I dont really believe them. I guess you're just misunderstood,am I correct?",he said with a bright smile.
Shinsou stayed silent. They stayed like that for a while until Denki mostly felt the taller boy next to him shaking lightly and only then did he notice a tear rolling down his cheek.
The blonde immediately tensed up and did the first thing that came to mind: he wrapped his arms around the boy next to him, bringing him close into his warm, tight embrace. And shinsou didn't sob,he didn't, but he did fist the fabric on Kaminari's back and he let a few more tears fall, his trembling slowly decreasing.
Kaminari was with his one hand stroking his hair and with the other rubbing circles on his back, carressing all over.
Shinsou really needed this.
After so many years of being feared,he had finnaly found someone who understood him,who didn't necessarily know what it felt like, but tried to get it and actually did. Shinsou really needed to hear these words from someone. His self doubt really had clouded his mind with thoughts about his new school and his future in general, how people would actually accept him and if they ever would, so Kaminari probably came and found him the perfect moment.
The two boys stayed hugged in each other's arms for the rest of the break, their lunches both long forgotten next to their laps.
They only parted once thei heared the bell ring and the first thing they saw once they pulled back was the genuine smile of the other right in front of them, still in a kind of daze.
Silently, they packed their boxes and left to the building, both wearing satisfied expressions on their faces.
.
.
.
But they both did feel like they needed something more than just the hug. Still,no one commented or acted so on. So after the school year ended, they just parted ways, both feeling satisfied, yet with something small missing.
