in less than five minutes, i feel like I develop an all-time high superiority complex.

i don't walk through the mall. i strut. i don't try on the dresses, i model them.

Lara was there, encouraging me every step of the way, both figuratively and literally. "yes, honey! work it, sis! who could do it better? no one, we been knew!"

i tried on many outfits; long and short dresses, bright and dark rompers. Some as casual as jeans and a tee, as high fashion as a black maxi dress with thigh-highs, and as professional as a pantsuit.

but none of them felt quite right for the occasion.

"i think you're being too picky." Lara shrugs. "you looked good in all of them."

"yes, we know," i tease, fluffing my hair out, making Lara laugh. "but this show deserves more than just 'i look good.' this is so important, i need to look perfect."

Lara sighs. "fine, there's one store we haven't looked yet."

that store was Forever Dreamy. it was so pompous and glitter-esque that both Lara and i had tried our best to avoid it, (we had looked in Hot Topic, first.) but right now, unless we were willing to drive an hour-and-a-half to go to the next mall, it couldn't hurt to take a look.

the store, as i said, was pompous. pink floors, light blue chandeliers. the clothing hangers were all purple velvet and 'Shake it Off' by Taylor Swift was playing at an almost obnoxious volume, (i too love Taylor, but sheesh!)

the outfits match the decor; loud, glitter, pompous. i pick up a few garments, a mixture of awe and disgust stirring in my stomach that reflected Lara's face. "people wear  this? i feel like i stepped into an episode of My Little Pony."

Lara snorts, and we continue to the back. "apparently so, otherwise they would've went out of business. though they should, if this is the best they can-"

"stop." i say suddenly. the manager was right in front of us. and she looks pissed.

"you know, if you're going to trash my store, you could at least do it from the outside." the lady hisses.

my cheeks flush a violent red. i really didn't know what to say.

"uh...we're sorry. you're store's not bad." Lara says. "really, we're just nervous. Janet here has a big TV performance on the Sunrise tomorrow and she needs to look perfect."

the lady's face softens. "wait...the Sunrise...Janet...you made that new song, Girl in the Movies, huh?"

i nod proudly, and the woman grins. "girl, i got just the thing for you. you've come to the right place. see, my name is Kris. i run Forever Dreamy, and i'm about to become your personal fashion savior."
