"Same house?" Madelyn asked, when they had left and gotten back into her Mini Van.
"Yep, still never moved," Eli answered.
"Your house isn't that far from the warehouse, then. We'll be there in five minutes, if there's no traffic." Madelyn said, laughing, and Eli joined in. The streets were almost empty because it was pretty late to be driving.
"Well, my street is always pretty busy so don't expect anything less," Eli said, and they laughed a little more. "I don't understand why they're throwing a party starting now. Who would go to a party that starts at midnight? Not me."
"I would, but that's just because I usually stay up until two in the morning," Madelyn said, turning the car left. "What's your dad doing in Korea?"
"Business, I guess. He got a new job last year, so instead of just traveling the U.S., he's traveling the world," Eli strained himself from sounding like a total wimp. His dad hadn't really been around when he had the job of traveling around the U.S. for business, but this was worse. He saw his dad maybe what-once every three months?
"You don't mind?" Madelyn said, focusing on the road.
Apparently, Eli's no emotion voice was convincing enough. "It's alright." He used even less emotion this time.
Madelyn didn't answer, but then turned right onto Eli's street. "Wow. I guess you weren't kidding about how busy your street is."
A huge abundance of cars were parked all over the street, even some were on Eli's lawn, which was full of people scattered around, holding red solo cups. Eli almost screamed when he looked at his house. Colorful, psychedelic lights shined through the window, which were open and people where getting in and out using them. People were on the lawn, running through a sprinkler. Were they crazy? It was freezing out! Music was pounding through Eli's ears, holding a steady beat that kind of made Eli want to dance, but he pushed that feeling down like it was a pill.
People were on the roof, jumping into an aboveground pool. Since when did Eli have a pool? He was lucky that he didn't have a lot of neighbors, and that most of those neighbors were on vacation because their kids had the week off. As for the few neighbors that weren't on vacation, oh boy.
"Park there," Eli said in a distressed voice, pointing at about the only empty spot on the street. As soon as she parked, Eli got out and began stomping over to his house, mind whirling.
Madelyn caught up to him by the time they reached his front lawn. "Do you think the neighbors will call the cops?"
Eli shook his head very slightly. "I hope not." He walked quickly over to his shed, where people were fighting on the rood with shovels. "Hey!" He yelled at them, getting their attention. "Get off my shed." He said it loud but with firmness, and then everyone around the shed scattered off.
Eli shut the shed door, locking it shut. Madelyn looked at his house. "You got a pool?"
"No." Eli said, walking towards the front door. "Help me find Ricky?"
"Sure, but before you get to him, think about what would happen if you killed him." Madelyn said, as a joke.
"I'm not going to kill him. I'm just going to tell him how much I love him, and what a great person he is." Sarcasm goes a long way.
"Eli!" A familiar female voice said, showing up at his side. A dark haired girl with dark eyes came into his preferable vision. He looked at her more closely and noticed her as Alice, from his English Lit class.
