Chapter 14: Health Insurance

Wednesday 12th December

Faith's P.O.V

I was walking towards my last class off the day, Media when my phone beeped in my bag. I grabbed it out of the side pocket and looked at it. There was a text message from my Mom.

I've just come home for a late lunch as I had a cancellation and I've received our quarterly health insurance letter, come straight home after school please, don't go to anyone's house x

Oh no. I don't think it gives details on them health insurance letters, I really hope not. She can't know, I'm going to tell her soon, I am. I wrote her a message back.

Okay I've got my Journalism club after school and then I'll be home about 4.15PM. Is everything okay? X

What can I say that this is about? I could tell her that it was a medication review. I can't tell her like this that I'm pregnant. I didn't get a reply so I assumed she was at work and seeing someone so I made it to Media class and sat down in my seat, waiting for the lesson to start.

Time Skip ... 2 and a Half Hours Later ... 4.30PM ... Driving Home ...

I was on my way home, and so curious as to what it says on our health insurance, it can't give details, and I will lie if I have to. I got a bit caught up at school so I'm running slightly late. I pulled up onto our drive and went in the main door. Mom shouldn't even be home she normally works. I walked into the living room and there she was.

"How come your home early?" I asked her.

"I took the afternoon as holiday pay. We need to talk, why did you go to the doctors on Monday 12th November?" Mom said.

"I had a review for my new pill, you know I changed over right?"

"You changed over nearly 3 months ago."

"Yeah I had to have a review for it."

"Why?"

"To see how I'm getting on with it. Sorry I didn't say anything I didn't think it was important. I'll tell you next time."

"Okay."

I stood up and went upstairs and sat down at my desk in my bedroom. I had some homework to do. My phone started to ring in my pocket. I picked it up and answered it.

"Hello." I said.

"Hi is this Faith Wilson?" She said.

"Yes, who is this?"

"This is Dr Mario phoning from Riverside Doctors Surgery. We've just had an update that you haven't had a doctor's appointment for your pregnancy in just over 4 weeks, would you be able to come in for a review?" Dr Mario asked.

"Yeah of course, when?"

"How's next Tuesday at 5PM?"

"That's fine, see you then."

"Thank you, bye."

"Bye."

I hung up the phone and then concentrated on my school work. I had to write an assignment for my Sociology class. I guess I should tell Ryan about the appointment. He wanted to come on Monday to the fake appointment I told him about. The scan came in the post so I showed him that, but I had to have Rachael and Layla stool him so he was late to the appointment, he just missed him. They popped a tire on his car so he couldn't get anywhere. He had someone come out to fix it but they took a while so he didn't make it. I feel bad but he can't know, my life would be over, I wish I hadn't lied but I have now so I can't do anything about that. I just won't tell him about my appointment Wednesday, that's best.

I've been looking into adoption and there is an agency that you can go to and fill in your details and they find couples for you and then you pick one. I do want a couple, not just a single person, I'd rather have two people there to look after the baby. I wouldn't ask for money as we have good insurance and don't have to pay for things like that, I'd just want the baby to have the very best of everything, all that I can't give him or her.

When I finished my assignment I decided to run a bath. I got undressed and then looked at myself from the side in the mirror. I have got a bump, it's noticeable if you know I'm pregnant, I am hiding it with slightly baggy tops at the minute but another month I won't be able to. I don't know what I'll do then. Hopefully I slow down growing. It's only slightly there, like I said, no one would know if they didn't know I was pregnant. I decided to give Ryan a call.

"Hey babe." He said, answering the phone.

"Hey, how're you?" I asked him.

"I'm good, how're you? How are you feeling?"

"Yeah I feel fine, bit sick but hey ho. Didn't really see you today."

"No I got so busy and then Mom wanted me home to sort out bits for Christmas. Fancy going Christmas shopping this weekend?"

"Yeah sure."

"I actually wanted to tell you that I got a job. It's just $8 and it's a waiter at Allasandro's down town but I will work every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 5 until 9 and then Sunday 12 until 9, it works out to $168 a week, it's weekly pay which is good."

"Why have you got a job?"

"In case we change our mind and now we can."

"No Ryan we can't, I'm not having this conversation, this is best. I haven't even told my Mom yet." I said.

"You're only 5 weeks."

"I know but she still needs to know."

God I'm such a liar, I'm 12 weeks and 2 days. Why did I ever lie to him? I feel like I'm stuck now, if I say anything I'll be so slated. I decided to cut the conversation short and then I had my bath, went to have dinner which was put in the microwave for me earlier, and then I went to bed. Ryan needs to get into the real world, we couldn't have a baby, and it's not even his baby, I wish it was but it isn't and there isn't anything I can do about that. One thing I am totally dreading is people at school finding out too, they are going to give me hell, well they'll try, I will stick up for myself but it is going to be so hard, I'm not popular but I'm not un popular, I'm a normal kid and the last thing I want is the attention all on me.

I laid in bed awake so unable to sleep. I checked the time on my phone and it was 11PM. I had heard everyone come to bed so I decided to go downstairs. I was tired but I could shut off. I grabbed a pint of ice cream out of the freezer and sat in front of the television watching 'Friends'. I finished a pint of 'Ben & Jerry's cookie dough' and then at some point fell asleep on the sofa.
