Kate Beckett's POV
I was always the outsider in Highschool. I had a few kilos to much, my hair was very short and my clothes were ugly. I was kind of a nerd. I only had A's. I had no friends. The teachers hated me. I was ugly, fat and alone. The others either bullied me or they ignored me completely. And there was one thing that was really not good for me. Richard Rodgers. He was the hottest and most popular boy in school and I had a big fat crush on him. I guessed he didn't even know who I was. But one day something changed. I was sitting in the library during the sports class as I had hurt my wrist the week before and wasn't allowed to do sports. I was reading my favorite book in the darkest, loneliest corner of the library, when someone sat across from me. I ignored him or her, because I thought it was someone who wanted to bully me again. "You are Kate Beckett right." I was startled at the question and looked up, unsure of what to do. My eyes only widened when I saw Rick Rodgers sitting infront of me. "I- uhhh... yeah." I stumbled out. "I'm sorry if I scared you. I saw you sitting here alone and thought you maybe wanted some company." "Really?" "Yup." He popped the 'p' and smiled at me. "If that's okay with you. Otherwise I'll go again." "No... it's just that..." "the others always bully you?" He finished my sentence and I just nodded. "Well I won't. I don't like it when people judge you because of your looks." "Says the hottest guy in school." I mumbled to myself. "You think I'm hot?" I closed my eyes. I had hoped he didn't hear my words. "Everyone does." "Mhmm..." He looked at me skeptically. "Anyway, are you excited for the summer break?" "Sure, finally I get a break from this horror show." I still couldn't believe he was talking to me. ME! "Do you have any plans?" "No. My parents have to work and I don't have any friends. You?" I couldn't believe I was talking to him so open. Usually I locked my problems away and didn't let anyone ever see them. "Me neither... Maybe you would want to do something together." He asked unsure. "I-I uhmmm..." "I understand if you don't, if you don't trust me I understand that..." He was standing up slowly. "No! I would love to spend some time with you." I blurted out. He sat back down and we continued to talk for some time.We spent time together more often, but never let anyone see us talking. I didn't want that. "You know, sometimes I just want to change myself." I sighed. It was the first day of summer break and we were drinking a coffee in the park near my house. "Why don't you?" "I can't. I have no motivation." "I can help you." Rick suggested. "How?" "I have some Ideas... But first you have to tell me what you want to change." I smiled slightly. "Well, first there is my weight." "K..." "My looks, as in, my hair, my clothes. Just everything about me." "Then first thing we do is, destroy every mirror and scale in you house so you can't see your little obstacles." He smiled at me softly. "Then we go for a run together. Everyday. And we only eat healthy food. No fast food, no sweets. And you won't cut your hair anymore. And as soon as your clothes don't fit anymore we go and buy new ones." I was stunned and confused the same time.
We kept up Rick's plan for the next months and soon my hair was falling over my shoulders with slight curls and my body was fit and thin. In the months of training I never looked into a mirror. Not even when we bought new clothes. The clothes were more colorful, happier and crazier. They showed more skin. Rick would tell me if the clothes looked good or not and I trusted him. We grew closer and he visited me at home sometimes, so did I. My parents were unbelievably happy that I had a friend and sometimes gave comments that we could be more but I didn't care if we were or not. With Rick I felt good. I also learned how to put on makeup. I never did it before and now I knew how to do it even without a mirror. "You look beautiful." Rick exclaimed two days before school would start again. I blushed. "Thanks." We were currently sitting on the swings were he came up with the plan in the first place. It kinda became our place over the months. "You know I really like you. Maybe even a little more..." I was surprised that moment. "Me too." I said anyway. I saw Rick leaning in a little bit and I got nervous. I never kissed anyone before. Still I leaned it a little too and closed my eyes. Suddenly I felt his warm lips on mine. It was just a gentle touch but it felt soooooo good. "Come with me." He said after we pulled away again. I was still smiling at the tingly feeling of my lips. Rick stood up and grabbed my hand to pull me with him. "Close your eyes." He leaded me somewhere. When we stopped our walking, it was almost completely silent. No cars, no people talking, just silence. "Open your eyes." I did and smiled as I saw myself in the mirror. I turned around and hugged Rick tightly. "Thank you!" I was so happy. And then we kissed again.
When we returned to our last year of Highschool two days later it was weird. From everywhere I heard the students talking about Rick Rodgers new secret girlfriend and some asked where Ugly-Katie was as they didn't recognize me as my new self. Once I heard someone ask who the new student — me — was. I saw Rick talking with some of his friends, probably about football, and walked over to them. I was almost there when I saw Meredith and her friend Gina walking up to the boys. "Hey Ricky." "Meredith, what do you want?" Rick sounded annoyed by the redhead. "Is it true that you have a new girlfriend?" She asked innocently. "Yes..." He wanted to continue his sentence but she cut him off. "So you really chose someone over me." "Or me." Her friend added. They had been the most popular girls in school, since I could remember and also the ones who had bullied me the most. I could see that Rick was kinda angry and so was I. I decided to give them some revenge for what they did to me the past years. I straightened my back a bit more and walked over to the group of boys and girls, only to wrap my arms around Rick's neck with a 'hey babe' and give him a not so short kiss on the lips. Not only I got fitter and thinner the past months, I also gained some self courage. "Hi baby." He whispered after we parted. I snuggled my head into his shoulder and gave Meredith and Gina a deadly glare. "Is that her!?" They both shrieked out, obviously surprised. "Yup, that's my girl. Ladies meet Kate Beckett." He said with so much pride in his voice, I almost melted away. "Ugly-Katie!?!" Now they were really shocked, especially because I wasn't as 'ugly' as they remembered me anymore. "You have a problem with that?" I asked in a voice that clearly said 'don't mess with me I'm not scared of you so just piss off'. "Kinda, yeah!" She dared to shout at me. "Don't you dare yelling at her or touching her." Rick pushed her away slightly and got into a protective position infront of me. They just turned around with their noses high in the air and walked away. I laid my hands around Rick's neck and played with the small hairs in the back of it while his hands massaged my hips slightly. Our foreheads and noses were touching with our eyes closed. "I'm sorry about this." He whispered. "Don't need to be. Meredith's a bitch, she deserves it." I whispered back and we both slightly chuckled. "I love you." I was surprised for a millisecond. "I love you too." We kissed again and parted to get to our class while holding hands. I saw Meredith and Gina and some other girls of their 'gang' glaring at me and figured that they had told their friends and watched us, but I didn't care.
