As mom opens the front door of the car, I feel the air of our new town sinking into my skin. It's a quite humid day in the heart of Reseda. I still can't believe she moved my sister and I to this beat up town.
"Cruel Summer" begins to play on the radio, but I'm not in the mood. After all, it is the 1980s. I get out of our broken down car and help Mom bring boxes to the apartment. "Lily! Be nice to the neighbors! I see them by the pool", she says. Some pool, I think, as I walk by. All the pool consists of is muddy rain water and peeling trim.
Mom says Addison, my older sister, and I are going to love it here, but I highly doubt that. The paint on the walls are chipped, theres bird poop stains on the roof, and the pool hasn't been cleaned in at least 3 months. The only slightly enjoyable thing is short walk from the apartment to the parking lot. My days in Reseda are going to be terrible
