I looked up from the book I was reading as the pilot announced our decent into Maui. Everyone around us got more lively as they got ready to land after the almost seven hour flight. Brooke stirred next to me and I gently shook her shoulder. Her eyes fluttered and she looked around.
"We're landing soon." I said. She nodded and yawned, blinking the last of sleep's haze away. She opened the window and let the light stream in. The ocean looked so blue and the sky was almost perfectly clear. I tucked my book into my bag and looked out the window over Brooke's shoulder. She glanced at me and smiled.
"What time is it?" She asked. I glanced at my watch.
"About 9:30 Hawaii time." She nodded and turned back to the window. The island came into view in the distance as we neared. After about fifteen minutes we landed in the runway and taxied to the gate. We grabbed our backpacks and headed out to the terminal to wait. After a minute everyone made their way off the plane.
The Summerall's had met us at the airport before we left and Dylan had Brec with him. Hayley was awake at this point and talking excitedly with Annie and Hayden. The group started off towards baggage claim and I had to grab Brooke's hand to get her attention away from the island decor all around the airport. She looked at me and I nodded towards the group.
"Come on!" I said with a bright smile. She returned the smile and we caught up with the others. We stood around at baggage claim while Dylan, Billy and Rush grabbed our bags. Rush sent our bags rolling towards us after they got all of them. Brooke and I grabbed our bags as they rolled to a stop in front of us.
"I can't believe we are here." Brooke said as we headed towards the exit.
"Me neither. It's so beautiful here." I replied. We stood around on the curb and admired the flowers and trees as we waited for the rental cars to finished being processed. Soon enough our group piled into 3 cars. Brooke and I went with Dylan and Brec for the trip to the hotel with all the luggage in our car. Brooke gazed out the window at the ocean as we drove along the coast away from the airport.
"I'm so excited to be here." Brec said from the passenger seat.
"Yeah, definitely. We get to go snorkeling later so hopefully we'll see turtles or something." I said. Brec smiled wider.
"I want to see turtles." Dylan chuckled and reached over to grab her hand.
"Hopefully we will." Brooke looked over at me.
"It would be cute to see turtles." We continued on talking about the things we were going to be doing over the next few days, like the luau that was tomorrow night, as we arrived at the hotel. We unloaded the suitcases and met up with everyone. We were greeted by a woman giving us leis. After that we all got checked into the hotel and went up to find our rooms. With the six of us, there wasn't quite enough room for everyone. I volunteered to sleep on the couch in our room. Everyone else was discussing who else was in what room.
"What if Cam and I just share a bed. We have the room." Brooke said. "It'll also give you guys more room." She said to Billy. Nicole shrugged.
          "Fine by me." Katie nodded.
"That works." So instead of the couch I was going to share a bed with Brooke in a room with her parents. After we put our stuff in our rooms and changed we headed down to the restaurant in the hotel to get some food. Hayden and Brec kept hitting each other with rubber bands, pulling the attention of the vlog cameras to them. Brooke and I were sitting together at the end of the tables.
"What are you most excited for?" I asked her as Brec yelled at Hayden.
"I'm excited to get a chance to escape the crazy of LA." As much as we loved LA, Brooke and I agreed that the city could get very loud and chaotic. "And, you know," she said, "spend some more time with you so we can get closer." I nodded.
"Me too." I replied touching her hand. She smiled at me and was about to say something but Hayden's screech and our approaching food caused our attention to shift and our conversation to stop. After we all finished eating we went back to our rooms so a few of us could put our swimsuits so we could go to the beach. Brooke and I had already changed so we waited in the hallway with Dylan and Hunter for everyone to be done. Eventually we all made our way down to the beach and Most everyone ran towards the surf. I let the warm water roll over my feet. The gentle breeze caught pieces of my hair, lifting them as it blew. The sun was just starting to dip in the sky casting things in a slightly golden light. I went into the water after a few minutes, going to where Hayden and Annie were playing in the waves.
After about two hours the sun was dipping lower in the sky making everything turn to fire. The air was warm and it was nice. Brooke and I were treading water just passed where the waves were breaking. She was studying my face as I studied hers.
"You look relaxed." She said quietly almost as if she was scared to break the silence and reveal that this wasn't real.
"I am. You look relaxed too. Is everything okay back in LA?" She looked out at the sunset before looking back at me.
"Yeah," She said after a pause. "It's just busy. Kinda feels like a never get the chance to sit down even though I do." I nodded.
"Yeah, I understand that. This vacation will be good for us. It'll be a chance to actually relax and be ready go back to LA. You know, without being exhausted." She laughed, nodding.
"Yes." She sighed and we let the quiet come back. In the distance we could hear the yells of the others that were still in the water and on the beach. Eventually we swam back to the shore, being carried forward by some of the waves. We met up with everyone on the sand and we went back to our hotel rooms. After a quick shower and a change of closes Brooke and I went to Micheal's room to hang out with everyone. We ordered some food and played a few cards games. After we ate, Brooke and I laid on the bed talking. Rush and Annie were sitting on the edge of the bed playing a game with everyone else so Brooke was laying her head on my collarbone. As the night really descended on us, everyone got quieter. Micheal ordered a little more food to snack on and Rush, Hayley, Annie and Hayden all went out on the balcony. I looked away from the TV that was on and realized that Brooke had fallen asleep. I had an arm wrapped around her as the warm breeze from the open sliding door played with wisps of her hair. Soon enough, the door to the hotel room opened and Katie, Paige and a few of the other adults came into the room. Katie was vlogging and was about to start talking when she looked over at me.
"Oh," she said as she made her way to the balcony. "Brooke is asleep." Her voice was quiet as she continued the vlog. Paige offered a small wave at me before she went out on the balcony. Katie and everyone else finished up the vlog before coming back in. "Alright. Let's all get to bed. We have a long day tomorrow." I gentle rubbed Brooke's shoulder.
"Hey, wake up. We're going to go back to our room." She blinked sleepily and sat up. I got up and she let me take her hand and pull her from the bed. I wrapped an arm around her waist and we went down the hall. We got into our room and Brooke grabbed her nightclothes and quickly changed in the bathroom. I changed too and we brushed it teeth before climbing into bed. I rolled onto my side and closed my eyes, listening to the sounds of the waves as the room quieted. As I started to drift off, Brooke moved closer and rested her head against my back, her arm gently resting over my hip. Her breathing deepened as she fell asleep and soon I was asleep too.
