Dancing colors are all I could see as I closed my eyes. Forgetting my complicated regime and just be still, to where I am. To my secret haven.
Minutes passed and the bright mixture of red and yellow light are now stained with dark spots forming a gnarly image. An image I very well knew. The dead ringer for my victim..! Yes, it was him..!
"No..!!"
My desperate scream and shuddering cry of the crow behind the fast-growing vines broke the tranquility of the mo. Followed by a drum. A reverberating sound of a drumming beak that could be heard from a distance. A woodpecker, foraging food on the tree trunk.
I upheaved myself and my teetering legs off the pebbled ground. Filled my eyes with the enchanting natural corridor of rain forrest trees.
I covered my eyes as the beam of sunlight poked through the leaves.
I walked around the usual longaevous tree towering mightily over me. A rotten cloth wrapped around it's trunk 3 feet high from the ground. I traced my finger to the rope fettering the cloth to keep it in place as it decays and looked up.
"You shouldn't have done that.." I whispered. Like a wingnut talking to the damn poor old tree.
"You shouldn't have done that..!" I wailed.
With nails dug unto my palm as I balled my my fist and positioned my body. Dividing my weight evenly between my front and back leg. I stayed on the ball of my feet, balancing lightly so I can push off towards any direction.
I kept my arms with my elbows tucked in. My hands infront of my chin, muscles relaxed and ready as I swinged.
I pushed off my back leg, gaining momentum and used my front leg to pivot on the ball of my foot, adding further power to another punch.
My breathing coming out explosively as I drew punches, tightening up my abdominal muscles. Transferring power from the lower body to my arms and fist in every strike.
"You. Shouldn't. Have. Done. That..!"
In every swing comes the words.
"Fight back..!"
Addressing the apathetic living infront of me.
"Why..!?" I whisper yelled through rugged breathing.
Why this tree never fought back..!? Why I never fought back even before then..!? Why did Dad let me kill him..!?
"Why..!!?" I howled as wings flapped away.
I leaned my head to the bole of the tree. My hands on either sides as I sweeped my legs and quadriceps hitting the trunk. Dried leaves silently settling on the ground.
A warm hand over my shoulder titillated alien hullabaloos on my nerve..! My defense senses ringing on my head..! But not like the warn of danger, freaky and eccentric.
Better be safe than sorry..! I gripped the wrist and instantly toppled my assailant's -whoever he or she is- balance using my hips and legs. Twisting his arm as he landed on his back on the ground. He groaned as I dove after him quickly, pressing my elbow to his neck with full force 'coz I felt his strenght, just to be met with those same forest orbs.
Surprised as I was, I felt my back made contact to the ground and him hovering over me.
"Don't let yourself get distracted that easy.." His warm breath fanning my face that brought shivers to my spine.
I blinked and swallowed hard concomitantly.
He got off me before I could even say. A part of me saddened at the lack of his touch. Bitch..! I mentally scolded myself.
He grabbed my hand and hoisted me up, and good God! The current is just so intense and weird. I knew he felt it too as he distanced from me in a fast speed.
"What--"
"Why--"
We both started off.
"What do you think you're doing here..!?" A bit of worry and anger could be heard in his words.
"Why are you even here, sir..!?" I shot back. Setting aside the fear flooding inside me. What does he knew..!?
"You just can't run off like that.. And come here.. in some remote areas!" His hands waving around gesturing my quite place.
"I've always been here for years, sir."
"Still, kid. Let's go back. Listen, I know things are just too much to take in for you right now but, you can't run off on everything like that. Running away from your fear is cowardness. I can see you're far way stronger and better than that. Face it, it'll help you grow more."
"W-what do you mean..!?" I blabbered.
"Alec Rae by the way.." He offered his hand to me but I'm too hesitant to accept.
"I'm here to help you out with your father's case. I know you want that to be solved too, right?"
I took his hands. It's warmth is just too comforting. I closed my eyes taking in the bizarre tickle of his touch.
He flipped my hand and even I, cringe at the sight of it. Red crimson liquid smeared over the back of my hand. Skin and superficial muscles are slightly lanced.
Carefully looped the bandage over my thumb, behind my palm then under my wrist twice. Behind back, across front of my palm twice, back down to wrist, anchoring low on thumb's base. Slid and wrapped between my pinky and ring finger back down across palm and anchored again low on base of my thumb.
Same process between my ring and middle finger. Middle and index finger. Once more around my wrist to stabilise. Around my thumb and wrist, across my knuckles, halfway down my proximal phalange then alternately wrist palm wrist securing on velcro.
"I shouldn't have been surprised you've got the moves, but, I still did. Where'd you get that strenght..?"
A playful smile lingering in his eyes but not in his face, not even in his lips, hmm.. Strange..!
I should be scared of him..! But why am I not..!?
"It's rude to stare you know. There, they're good. Try putting some hand wraps often."
He released my hands as he picked up his cap that fell as I tackled him.
"How did you find me here, sir?"
"I followed you, simple. See, you don't even know. Look, your father's case is a bit complicated. It's not safe for you- your whole family- to roam around. We do not know, the killer is just out there watching."
He explained with so much worry in his tone. Damn heart! Rejoicing much!? He's concerned 'coz it's his job, bitch!!
