"Miss Daniels, I'm sorry to have to say this, but you're expelled," said Mrs. Vaughn, headmistress of St. McKay's School for Girls.

Expelled, expelled, expelled, expelled

The word echoed in my head as I gripped the arm of the chair I was currently seated in, hoping that this was some mistake.

"It saddens me to have to do this. I never expected something like this from one of our schools brightest minds," she continued, shaking her head.

"I didn't do it," I muttered weakly. This wasn't possible, I couldn't possibly be expelled.

How had my life changed so drastically in just two hours?

Class had just ended and I was walking back to the dorms. I was just passing around the school's science building, when suddenly someone in a mask ran up to me and tossed something to me.

I caught the item out of reflex, and was startled when I recognized that it was a firecracker. It was one of the ones shaped like a small rocket that people get at 4th of July. And the fuse was already lit!

Without really having the time to think, I chucked it and ducked down.

Almost instantly there was a small ka-boom from nearby, and then an earth shattering explosion followed.

Horror-struck, I looked up and saw that I had thrown the firecracker through an open window and into the science lab. Smoke filled the air and so did other, possibly toxic, gasses.

Then, everything happened very fast.

After having the surrounding buildings immediately evacuated and the fire department showing up to take care of the fire, I was escorted to the headmistress's office.

There the police tried to accuse me of terrorism, and there were tears as I pleaded my case. After two hours of cross examination the police went into an investigation of the masked person.

Then, Mrs. Vaughn came into the room and told me that there were no security cameras in that part of campus and I was the only one there when the explosion happened.

Without any evidence to prove otherwise, I was the one who threw the bomb (It was a firecracker for Pete's sake!), so I was the one who had to accept the punishment.

Now, a mere 2 hours since the incident, here we were discussing my expulsion.

"I will give you till the end of the week to pack your things," Mrs. Vaughn continued sadly, as if she hadn't heard me.

"I wish that there was another way. However, school policy says someone must pay the consequences. Especially of such a destructive incident. You're very lucky that no one was harmed in this incident. This is all I can do for you, Miss Daniels. It's either this or press charges for destruction. " Mrs. Vaughn sighed, dismissing me from my lecture.

I rose shakily, still not believing this was happening. Me. Mitchie Daniels, straight A, honor student, president of the student council; being expelled for blowing up my school.

There was no way I was going to be able to tell my father about this. He was already busy enough working all the time as it was, he didn't have time to worry about finding me a new school.

The only reason I was even in this school was because my father was too busy running his company to worry about raising a daughter and keeping up with four adult sons.

How was I possibly going to tell him? Would he be understanding? Would he even take the time to listen?

Hey Dad, I was expelled at school. I threw a firecracker threw a window and blew up the science lab, but it wasn't my fault! It was in self-defense! Someone in a mask threw the firecracker at me first!
