Beep! Beep!
"Urg." I turned my head and groggily swung my arm, successfully ending the drone of noise in the background. That alarm indicated the 'beginning of my new life' or at least that's what dad calls it. To me it's the only life I know.

"Melody! Do you want some bacon?" My dad bellowed from the kitchen.

"Dad, have you even met me? Obviously, I want bacon!"

"Nice to see your sarcasm as good as ever!"

"And yours!"

I pulled my duvet covers over my head and clamped my eyes shut, after a couple minutes of trying to go back to sleep-
Beep! Beep! Beep!

"And there's my second alarm." You know I really don't think I'm much of a morning person. I swivelled round and proceeded to slip my legs out of the warmth into the crisp and cold morning air. A small squeal escaped my mouth when I made contact with my icy wooden floor. Who decided to give me wooden floors instead of carpet?

"Well I suppose it's time I got ready." I walked over to my mirror and proceeded to start my morning routine, covering my puffy eyes and blemishes with the highest coverage foundation I could find, before chucking on the outfit I had prepared last night.

I walked into the kitchen to see my dad dancing to the latest Ed Sheeran track. "So take me back to London!" I couldn't help myself, I just burst out laughing.

"I'm sorry but is Ed Sheeran rapping?" His name and that word just don't belong in the same sentence.

"I believe so. Are you ready for you first day?" He asked whilst sliding a plate of bacon over to me.

"Nope." With that I shoved loads of bacon in my mouth to avoid anymore questions.

"It will be fine, anyway hurry up because we need to leave in five."

"What? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" I put all the bacon into some tissue grabbed my shoes and bag before heading towards the front door. "Ready!"

"Great then let's go."

The car journey was solemn, it just felt wrong. My stomach twisted it knots and the closer we got to school the tighter they got.

My dad turned into the school and as if sensing my panic said, "Don't worry about it too much love. You will settle in soon enough." I shrugged my shoulders and begrudgingly slid out of the car. "I will pick you up at 3:20! Have fun!" And that was it. I was on my own now. The school was huge, there was multiple buildings and they all had at least two floors. How the hell does anyone find their way around here?

Fortunately the office appeared to be right by the front gate. As I got closer to the receptionist desk my heart raced and my mind was telling me to turn around but I knew I had to do this. The lady behind the desk had blonde hair and actually seemed quite nice, maybe this won't be so bad.

"Hi there, I'm new. My name is Melody Pappilon." She greeted me with a warm smile that set me at ease.

"Ah yes welcome, you're the student whose moved here from Edinburgh correct?" I nodded my head. "How lovely. Why did you decide to move to London?"

"Oh you know, just change of scenery." I lied. She nodded, accepting the lie and proceeded to pick up various pieces of paper.

"Right so this is your schedule and here is a map. If you lose your schedule just come see me and I can print you off another one. Also feel free to ask the teachers and the students for directions, I think you'll find that we're all quite friendly here."

I graciously took the sheets from  her. "Thank you so much." I looked down the sheet and saw that my first lesson was history. The irony.

Look around school you immediately saw the clicks and the so called 'populars' versus the 'unpopulars'. Damn, schools just messed up. I mean we're just being taught segregation and how to become good test takers, a load of bullshit if you ask me. Anyway focusing on the task at hand, I chose to stick to the map rather then asking for directions, I didn't like the idea of going up to someone for directions.

Fortunate enough for me I can read a map and actually made it to the class with what looked like time to spare. The class was empty so I decided to wait outside but I found as people showed up they walked in. I honestly can't remember a time where I've felt this uncomfortable, the teacher still wasn't here and I didn't wanna go and sit down incase I sat in someone's seat. So I stood, at the front, looking like a lemon.

"Right class today we will be going over witchcraft in the Jacobean era, so could you all get out your textbooks and turn to page 64." A feminine voice came from behind making me jump out of my skin. "Ah, I see we have a new arrival. Could you please remind me of your name?"

"Melody Papillon." I virtually whispered.

"Very good, there's a spare seat on the 3rd row, if you could sit there please. Now, do you have the textbook?"

"Umm no." I wasn't told about any of this!

"Very well then, for today you will have to share with your partner Jacob. Now as I was saying, turn to page 64 and I want you to read the tests people were put through if suspected of being a witch, you have 10 minutes and I want notes." I let out a short sigh as I slumped down in my seat and focused on the task at hand.

"Hi I'm Jacob." He put his hand out.

"Melody." As I shook his hand.

"So how come you're here?" Big forward.

"Um well you know, the usual, my dad's job moved so we did too."

"Ah nice. Well I'm sorry to tell you this but you're gonna hate history." He chuckled, I was starting to sense a warmer side of him.

"Well I already do, but enlighten me, why am I going to hate history?"

"Well I mean for one you're sitting next to me and second Miss Collins is a real bitch." Well he certainly has no problem sharing his opinion.

"Huh, well I'll keep and eye out thanks." I chuckled.

"Anytime." And that was it for the rest of the lesson until the last 5 minutes that is. "So, what lesson you got next?"

I scrambled to find my timetable amid the paper work Miss Collins has given me. "Ummm, ah where is it, let me see. I have government and politics." He grimaced as the words fell out of my mouth.

"You chose government and politics as one of your three a levels. What are you, insane?" His reaction kind of made me chuckle.

"Yep, I mean I actually find it all pretty interesting."

"Whatever new girl. Just don't come crying to me when you're struggling under the pressure." And with that we left the lesson and I went on with the rest of the day.

I've never been so happy that in sixth form you only have a maximum of two lessons a day. To be honest I think I'd crumble under pressure with anymore then that. The rest of my day carried on the same way. I talked to a few people but never really more than a short conversation. When lunch time came around I just plugged in my headphones and ate whilst doing some work. I know it's antisocial but I just really don't want to deal with people at the moment. I'm sure the longer I'm here the more people I will meet, I just need a chance to settle in first.
