AJ
Ethan and I were led to another place; except halfway across the yard spreading the set of houses and administraion, Ethan was taken away by Query.
"Where's he going?" I ask Ivan, as I follow him.
"Somewhere." He answered.
How helpful.
We approached a tent, hidden behind some chopped pine trees. It used a tarp, supported against the side of the timber shed. I saw fur of some kind, along with a bait knife and a basket on the tables.
"What are we doing?" I ask, and Ivan sits down on the chair. He motions for me to sit on the stool next to him.
"Something." Ivan says, as I sit down beside him. Ivan pulls out a dead beaver of some kind, and plumps it on the table. I wince, and poke it, it's white eyes wide.
"Gross." I said. "Are we gonna eat it?"
"Eventually." Ivan laughs, and takes the bait knife. "I'm teaching you to gut this thing...eh, what's your name?"
"AJ." I said, horrified. "I don't wanna cut this open. It's...gross."
"Just watch, AJ." Ivan said, and positioned the knife at the beaver's stomach. "You cut open walkers, right?"
"Yes." I said.
"It's not any different. Better, actually." Ivan says. He starts to slice, and I have to keep my contracted stomach under control. Blood and fluid oozes from the animal, and Ivan flips the skin back. I cover my eyes.
"Ew! Gross! Yuck!" I squirm and cringe. "Stop!"
"Open your eyes." Ivan said, and I did, revealing the covered insides of the animal.
"Ugh. Gross." I said.
"Your turn." Ivan hands me the knife. "Get the insides out."
"Get the insides OUT?!" I question.
"God, shut up. You're worse than Query." Ivan complained and rolled his eyes. "Just do it, and get it over and done with. Okay?"
I sigh. "Okay...."
...
"Done." I said, and push away the animal. "That's the last one, right?"
"Well, yeah. I think you've done enough." Ivan rolls his eyes. "Congratulations. You can now clean an animal."
"I don't like doing it." I said, and standing up from my chair. "It sorta sucks."
"Well, I don't like killing dead human beings, but it's something I do everyday." Ivan responded. Then he sighed. "Okay. Time to get tough. AJ, I demand that you head back to your cell."
I giggle. "Still nope. You need to say it with a straight face. And not to tacky."
Ivan laughed. "Hehe. Maybe I'm not too good at 'putting my foot down.'"
"I agree." I laugh, and Ivan shakes his head.
"Seriously, though. Get back to your cell." Ivan said, and I turned around. "And no detours along the way!"
I nod, and walk away.
Maybe acting like I belonged here wasn't so difficult anyways.
