genesis was almost completely healed.
it had been a month since the death, and she was starting to have a greater outlook on life. a constant thought of hers was she wouldn't want you sulking around.
she has another constant thought, one that she would rather not think about.
she also wouldn't want you waiting around for sadie when you could just make it happen.
she often ignored that thought.
it was a normal day for her now. she did no more sulking or crying, the only thing she fretted about anymore was what she was to do with the lease.
she couldn't bare go to another book store. it felt like betrayal.
so she now spent all of her saturdays at the small but busy cafe.
she went through her day with her normal routine.
order a hot chocolate, a bagel, sit down, read, eat, wait until dark, walk home with sadie.
today's walk was different.
she didn't know why, but gen felt as if sadie was anxious. for what, she didn't know. she didn't want to ask and push the stress further, so she didn't.
the walk was normal, but when they got to gen's house she noticed sadie was shaking.
"are you okay? you're shaking."
"i know, i'm fine."
"no you're not. i'll be right back and i'll bring you-"
before she knew it, sadie had pushed her lips onto gen's.
gen's eyes were wide open in shock, but she closed them and went along.
as quickly as it happened, it stopped. the two stared at each other in shock, sadie looking even more shocked than gen.
sadie was suddenly running in the other direction, gen yelling after her. she knew she had no chance of actually catching her. she was possibly the slowest runner ever.
she called and called, but never got an answer.
-
sadie sink was absolutely petrified.
she had kissed genesis! what was she thinking?
she hadn't shown up at the cafe either.
it was dark outside, and she was still not there. sadie was 100% sure that she had fucked up a great friendship that would never be anything more.
just as she lost all hope, genesis jones stood outside, waiting for her. it was pitch black, so sadie didn't know why she was out alone.
sadie rushed outside, figuring that millie would cover for her. she immediately grabbed gen's arm and started walking.
"i'm so sorry. i don't know what came over me. i know that you don't like me that way and i totally understand if you hate me now and you never wanna see my stupid face ever again-" sadie was talking quickly, the panic in her eyes evident even in the dark. before she could process, genesis had done the same to her.
genesis jones kissed sadie sink.
sadie kisses back right away, adrenaline coursing through her veins from the panic, and now the kiss.
gen pulled back. "y'know i like you, sadie sink. like a lot."
sadie pulled her into another kiss. "and y'know i like you too, genesis jones. like a lot."
the two walk hand in hand on the way to her apartment. it's silent between them, a mutual giddiness building up.
they reach her apartment, a sad glint in sadie's eye. she had just kissed the love of her life multiple times, and she was now leaving her.
gen looked at her, a small smile covering her face. "you wanna spend the night?"
the apartment is small, exactly how sadie would've imagined it. it had mostly off-white furniture, a few plants here and there.
despite the girl's love for reading, there was only four books on her bookshelf.
"i thought you would have more books?"
gen's eyes snapped to the bookshelf. "oh," she pulls all four out. three of the covers looked identical to sadie, then there was the familiar one.
she put it back. "you already know the story behind that one."
sadie noticed the bookmark no longer there. "you finished it?"
"yeah, a while ago." she looks at the book nostalgically, and sadie knows it's because of the owner.
the other three books rest in her hand, and she stares at them lovingly. "this is my favorite series. to all the boys i've loved before. i read all three of them in one day."
"of course you did," sadie rolled her eyes in a playful way.
"these books mean a lot to me. so does the story." she says it in a way that sadie can't help but fall in love even more. with the girl, who seemed to be in love with books.
gen then brings her eyes back up to sadie, putting the books back and dragging her to another room. there's a bed, with off-white covers and a small golden dog wagging its tail.
"hey mandy!" gen called in a sweet tone. she then flipped into the bed, holding arms out at sadie. sadie playfully rolled her eyes again, before falling right next to her.
she curled up like she did that one night on the beanbag.
they both try to sleep, but they both seem to know that they won't. so, sadie asks a question. "why do you love those books so much?"
gen sighed. "i think it's longing. i want to feel love from somebody so bad, and lara jean and peter are just perfect for each other. in the end they make it work no matter what. that's the kind of love i want. the kind you would risk it all for."
the two fall into a silence. "i cant sleep." gen whines. "can you sing?"
sadie chuckled. "i don't sing."
"i bet you're fine," gen teased. "please?"
"only for you, genesis jones."
she starts singing the chorus of cant help falling in love with you. sadie can't help but relate to the lyrics.
"oh i, can't help falling in love, with you."
