genesis jones was the most happy she had been in a while.
it had been about a month since she met sadie, and every night since they walked home together. each night, gen felt the small feeling in her chest become larger with each word she said.
gen couldn't deny that she loved everything about the redhead. she loved that she didn't call her by her nickname. when asked why, sadie would say that she doesn't get the full beauty unless she says her whole name. gen loved the way her name sounded coming from her mouth, her voice, her lips. gen loved her hair, the way it reminded her of beverly from her book. she wondered if she was ben. a boy hopelessly in love with someone who would never even think of them that way.
well, gen wouldn't say she was in love. she wouldn't say she loved the girl, or even had a crush on her. she would tell anyone who asked that she definitely did not have a crush on the girl who was becoming her best friend because she was definitely straight. gen knew it would be a lie, but she wasn't 100% sure of her sexuality.
she would not say she was in love, or that she loved, or that she crushed on the girl, but if asked she believes that she wouldn't be able to help herself. she believes of asked she would talk for hours about the redhead and every single detail she could remember.
sometimes she would wonder if sadie felt the same, but she knew that if she even dared to have a sliver of hope it would be thrown away and stomped on, along with her confidence and self-esteem.
tonight was no different than any other night, except the fact that gen had the urge to kiss sadie sink the whole walk home.
she couldn't help but want to. the way the moonlight hit her face, the way she smiled as she talked, the way her lips moved. she just wanted to grab her face and kiss her as soon as possible.
but of course, gen stopped herself. if she wanted to kiss someone, she would have to find someone who would love her as much as she loved them.
as genesis jones entered her home that night, the events led her up to one conclusion. the moonlight, sadie's face, her hair, her smile, her lips, her everything.
genesis jones knew that night that she had an undeniable crush on sadie sink.
-
sadie sink felt crushed.
ironically, it was by one of her crushes.
she knew her crushes never went this far. they went away after a couple weeks, usually fading after a couple of days. but her current crush was only growing as the days went on.
she told the only person she could, which was millie bobby brown. millie teased her, singing "sadie sink is in love!" over and over. sadie shut that down immediately, then that night she confessed.
well, not really.
"i have an issue." sadie started. genesis nodded, letting her know to continue. "i have this massive crush on one of my friends," sadie paused, and she could swear she saw genesis's face fall for a moment, but maybe she just imagined it. "usually my crushes go away after a few weeks, but this one won't go away!"
"well," genesis's voice was quieter than usual, but thankfully sadie didn't notice. "who is it?"
"uh," sadie had to come up with a lie, quickly. "my friend finn."
"oh." her voice is even quieter. "well, i say go for it. he'd be an idiot to not fall for someone as beautiful as sadie sink."
sadie is suddenly grateful for the dark, because without it genesis would be able to see her face go bright red. "you really think so?"
"i know so. if i were finn, i would never let you go."
"thank you."
the two fell into a comfortable silence, which sadie broke.
"i think you should meet him."
genesis choked on nothing, the two never talking about meeting each other's friends. "oh?"
"yeah. not just him. my other friends too. you'd love them. i think you'd make a good match with noah."
genesis is now the one suddenly grateful for the dark, because without it sadie would be able to see the pure disappointment on her face.
i think i make a better match with you. she wants to say, but she never does.
genesis is relieved once they get to her apartment. she was ready to go inside and sulk.
suddenly, sadie grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a hug.
genesis was too shocked to hug back at first, but then it registered and suddenly her arms are around sadie sink's torso. she's a little shorter than sadie, so she's able to rest her head on her shoulder.
they stay like this for a few moments, each thinking that they enjoyed it more than the other, when genesis broke away.
"i'll see you tomorrow, sadie sink."
when the door closed, sadie couldn't help but whisper to herself.
"and i'll still love you tomorrow, genesis jones."
