I came out of the darkness and found myself surrounded by nature. The grass of my feet were fresh and I could smell the sun, as it filtered through the leaves. All sorts of birds were chirping through the open sky.
I looked around and nostalgia filled me.
I recognized this place.
This was when Alex and I had become good friends and our families were starting to know each other. They decided to have a Barbeque party in one of the parks. Our older siblings, who were originally classmates, were running around, playing various things while our parents were cooking and talking to each other.
My ears perked up when I heard sniffling.
Curiosity filled me and I went to the source of the sound. As I pushed aside some bushes and peeked over. I saw a boy with short black hair and he wore a purple tee shirt with shorts. He was hunched over and seemed to be crying.
I slowly made my way forwards and my tiny hands gripped my overalls.
"Um-"
The boy was startled and turned towards me in shock and fear.
"A-Are you okay?" I asked, then I noticed his eyes.
"Alex?" I asked confused.
Alex hiccuped and was about to go into a crying fit.
I knelt down beside him and rubbed his back.
"What's wrong? You don't feel so good?" I asked.
"I don't like it-"
I tilted my head in confusion.
"My hair..."
"Ahh, you got a haircut, right?" I remembered when I heard Alex's mom tell my mom. Why do parents always tell each other about these things?
Alex nodded and he pulled his knees to his chest.
"It's too short" he muttered and pouted.
I patted his short black hair. It wasn't that short.
"It looks fine to me" I confessed.
"It's too short" repeated Alex.
"Why?"
"People can see my eyes" said Alex, "I don't like my eyes."
I stared at Alex.
Ahhh, I remembered this. Alex didn't like his violet eyes when he was younger because everyone had 'normal' eye colours. It brought too much attention to him and that brought on a number of things.
I hugged tiny Alex and pressed my cheek to his hair.
"I like your eyes. They remind me of that purple crystal at my home. Ame...Ame-" I furrowed my face in frustration.
"Amethyst?" said Alex, wiping his teary violet eyes.
Ah, they were red and puffy.
I pulled the sleeve of my shirt and pressed it against his tear-soaked face.
"Yeah! I heard they're good stone!" I explained, before furrowing my eyebrows. "Well my parents said it was supposed to be lucky and stuff but I don't remember."
Alex gave a small chuckle and he nodded.
"I'm glad you like them Kaitlyn. Thank you" he said.
