the sky is dark,
shimmering with the lights of the skyline
and stars that shine above,
by the time Jihye and Nari leave the academy.
burnt out and tired,
they trudge sluggishly side by side
mindlessly marching towards their homes
down the dimly lit sidewalk.
though Jihye is physically tired and worn,
her mind is alive and awake,
racing with thoughts and ideas.
what if Nari's right?
what if he doesn't even like me?
hell, we've spoken maybe a total of 3 times at most.
should i go up and talk to him.
probably.
urghh, Jihye-ah you gotta get yourself together.
"hey, hey? earth to Jihye, hello?"
Nari waves her hand in front of the other dazed girl's face in a confused manner.
"what-,"
Jihye stutters, snapping out of her trance,
"yeah, i'm fine. what do you want?"
"i'm hungry and neither one of my parents are home to cook for me,"
Nari whines as if she's a preschooler again.
even including a small stomp between each of her steps,
"you wanna come and get some food with me?"
Jihye considers it,
thinking it over with more intensity than she should've.
it is getting dark, almost 10 now.
ughh, my parents are gonna get worried.
screw it, i want some street food,
and i'll just call them.
i mean, Nari and i live in the same complex
so we'll be together the whole time,
we'll be safe.
"yeah, sure. but i gotta call my parents so they aren't gonna beat my ass when i get home,"
Jihye finally replies with a small chuckle, while Nari claps in her small victory.
"c' mon, i know a really good noodle shop just around the corner!"
-
neon billboards
and shining lamps light up the street.
the two young girls hurriedly make their way
to their favorite noodle shop.
speed walking the whole way
partially out of hunger,
but mainly out of paranoia and fear of the unknown in the dark.
as the pair approach the glittering light
that shown from inside the noodle shop,
a smile bloom on both of their faces.
eyes glistening with joy
and stomachs growling with hunger,
the two girls stormed into the almost empty store,
scrambling to get to the counter.
Jihye scurries ahead of Nari,
lightly pushing her in the process,
and giggling like children.
"hi, i'd like to ge-," Jihye begins
but is quickly caught guard by the same
curly, chocolate brown-haired boy
with glistening coal dark eyes
and a jawline so sharp, it could slice her in half.
flustered, Jihye takes a glance at his name tag,
pinned right in front of her face,
as if mocking her and
confirming her suspicions all at once.
"what can i get for you two?" Hoseok asks.
