the two girls wave off to Hobi,
before walking out of the cozy, warm shop
back onto the dark and freezing streets.
they huddled into their thin jackets
and quickly shuffled down the block towards their homes.
Jihye snuggles tighter in her bundle of a jacket,
the sharp, cold air piercing her nostrils
and making it hard to breathe.
though on the surface she appears calm and collected, maybe even a little dead,
her mind is racing.
questions and answers fumble together,
which in turn, leads to more in-depth inquiries.
Jihye glances at the girl walking next to her
scrunched up in her jacket
and progressively trudging faster
as they neared their apartment complex.
one major thing about the way her best friend acted,
confused Jihye more than anything has ever had.
why does Nari seem to hate the Bangtan Boys so much?
what have they ever done to her?
why did she single Jimin out?
is there something she's not telling me?
Jihye shot the girl another glance,
then looked back down at her feet.
she bounces back and forth
between whether or not she should ask her what's wrong
when warm, honey-like light
shown on the sidewalk in front of her.
she looks up and watches
as Nari digs through her pockets for her building keys.
Jihye discreetly clears her throat
before speaking up in a soft, barely audible voice.
"hey, Nar-ri?" she stutters, mentally facepalms herself
for getting so worked up talking to her own best friend,
" c-can i ask you a thing?"
Nari stops fumbling with her keys
but refuses to look up.
"yeah? what is it?" she questions with uncertainty in her voice.
"why do you dislike the Bangtan Boys so much? especially Jimin?"
Nari freezes mid-turn of the key in the keyhole
and looks down at her feet
as if the memories were suddenly crawling back into her consciousness.
a cold wave of regret suddenly washes over Jihye
the moment she saw Nari so upset with her question.
she just wishes she can go back in time
and not let her curiosity get the best of her.
before she can possibly utter out an apology of some sort,
Nari softly whispers:
"i just don't want you to get hurt the way i was."
then, as if she is snapping back into reality,
Nari jerks open the door,
swinging it wide open,
before dashing up the stairs.
"wait, Nari, i'm sor-" Jihye yells out,
chasing her through the door,
but she is already nowhere to be seen.
leaving Jihye in her poor pool of pity, regret, and immense confusion.
