Zack was breathing heavily as he limped to the exit with Rachel in his arms. He watched her breathing as much as he could while he made for the double doors. Her chest rose and fell slowly and her breathing was shallow. He needed to get her medical attention and fast.
"Don't you die on me Ray.." He mumbled. A few paces later he was at the double doors. Shit. He thought, How am I going to get past them without the cops seeing us? He stood there for a moment then looked down at Rachel. What would she do? He looked around in panic until he realized the answer was right below him, slowly drifting. Smoke.
"The Priests effects!" He gently propped Rachel up against the wall next to the door and searched the area for any sign of the smokey, distorting and distracting visualizers. He looked behind doors and in end tables randomly placed down the hall. No luck. He looked back once more at Rachel then ran into the nearest room and looked in the same areas, until he folded back a mattress and saw a crate halfway open. Bingo. Sprinting back to Rachel-unharmed and still breathing-he pulled the pin on the grenade and gently threw it out of one of the doors. Waiting a few moments to regather Rachel in his arms, he slowly made his way outside of the building. Being sure to hide behind or at least blend in with, the smoke. Limping into the outside air Zack breathed deeply, inhaling the freshness. Blue and red lights flickered through the smoke and there was no way to get past them from where they exited, besides jumping off the side of the landing, over a railing. Zack peered over the railing, it wasn't too far of a drop and he could make it easily with his injury.
He slowly layed Rachel down on the concrete and slid himself underneath, dropping to the ground softly. When he stood back up, his shoulders were level with the slab. He reached his hands up to grab Rachel's wrists and slowly dragged her below the railing, trying to be careful of damaging her frail little body any more than it was. Once her knees passed the railing he shifted a bit to cradle her once again.
"I'm sorry." He whispered as he brushed the hair out of her face, his own bangs dangling on her forehead.
There was shuffling from beyond the smoke and lights dimly shined through, "There! Over there!" shouting erupted. Zack barred his teeth and groaned, turning to sprint down the alleyway that was empty and open. He struggled carrying Rachel and running on his wounded leg, but he knew exactly where he was going. He took a right at the end of the alley and quickly crouched under an awning that was connected to the next door building. He knew this route like the back of his hand.
"Please be there, please be there.." He panted as he slammed his fist on the enter button to the key pad of the underground parking garage beneath the awning. The windows on the door were blacked out until a few seconds after when the curtain moved and a skinny blonde guy peeked through. His eyes widened when he saw Zack and even wider when he looked down at Rachel. "Let me in!" Zack half whispered half shouted. The blonde man slowly lifted the door open enough for Zack to slide in stealthily with Rachel. Once the door shut closed Zack layed her down before collapsing himself. The skinny man watched through the crack in the window as the police ran by in squads.
After they were out of sight he spun around to face Zack, "Good god Isaac, what did you do? You didn't kidnap her did you?"
Zack raised his head up to look at him, "It's Zack now."
