Dangerous Liaisons

"Are you ok?" I ask Nik as he sits on his bed.
"You're still here?" He asks and I can tell he still has tears in his eyes.
"I figured you would need someone, right? That's what we're here for. To be there for each other." I tell him as I stand between his legs and he smiles up at me. He rests his head on my stomach and I play with his hair. "I thought I had some family drama." I say and he looks up at me in disbelief. "What? I'm just saying." I say and move to walk towards his closet. I grab one of his t-shirts and put it on. It's big on me and goes to mind-thigh. I walk back to him and he's laying back on the bed with his shirt off and sweatpants on. I lay next to him and put my head on his chest and he wraps his arm around me.
"I would have gone with you. If your family had left. I would go anywhere with you." I tell him and he looks down at me with his eyebrows furrowed.
"Why?" He asks.
"I mean, I'm not blind. I know you're an ass. And you've killed a lot of people. But... when I'm with you. I feel so alive. A way I haven't felt in a while." I tell him and he smiles and kisses my forehead.
"Now, go to sleep." He tells me and I nod.
"Will you be here when I wake up?" I ask him.
"Yes, I promise." He says and I close my eyes and go to sleep.

I wake up the next morning from kisses on my neck.
"Mmm. I could get used to this. I tell him and I smile.
"Come on. Kol and Finn would like to meet you. Well, again." He says and gets up. I get up and get changed into some clothes that Rebekah left for me. I head downstairs and into the living room area and see Kol, Elijah, Finn and Rebekah there.
"Hi." I say awkwardly and I'm returned with genuine smiles and them telling me to sit down. Rebekah gets someone to do my nails as well and I listen to them talk.
"Rebekah, tell me how handsome I am." Kol says looking at himself in a tux in the mirror.
"Ah, Kol, you know I can't be compelled." She says and I laugh.
"You look very handsome Kol." I tell him and he smiles at me.
"You always were nicer than Rebekah." He says and goes back to looking at the mirror.
"You went after Elena? What is wrong with you?" Nik comes in asking Rebekah and I stare at her.
"Here we go." Rebekah says.
"Really? My sister? I know she can be annoying but she is still some of the only family I have left." I tell her.
"Do you want another dagger in your heart?" Nik threatens and I stand up to put my hand on his chest and calm him down.
"Again with the dagger threats? Don't you have any other tricks?" Kol asks and I sigh.
"Oh, go back to staring at yourself." Nik says.
"And you are you? My father?" He asks and I sit down.
"No, Kol, but you are in my house." Nik says.
"Then perhaps we should go outside." Kol says and I get up and put a hand on each of their chests.
"Enough! Niklaus, come." Esther says coming into the room and then leaves with him. I look around at all the siblings.
"I'm gonna.. yeah." I say and leave the room to Nik's room. When I get there I lay on the bed and just close my eyes. Nik comes on a few minutes later and basically lays on top of me.
  "Get off me." I say with a laugh.
  "Not until you say yes to going to the ball with me tonight." He says.
  "I.. I don't think it's a good idea." I say and he frowns. "It's just.. dances aren't really my fondest memories. There's the one where you inhabited my dad body. And the on where your dad tried to kill you." I say and his stare tells me it's not enough. "I also have nothing to wear." I tell him.
   "I've got that covered. Go get a shower and get ready. The dress will be out here when you return." He tells me and I sigh. He gets off of me and gets up off the bed. He pulls me up and pushes me towards the bathroom.
After my shower I come out of the bathroom and there's a beautiful dress laying on the bed.
   "Oh, my god." I gasp. I put it on and then I make my way downstairs. That's when I realize the party has already started. I see Nik at the bottom of the stairs and I smile at him. I rush down and then he holds his arm out for me. I loop mine through his and then we walk into the middle of the dance floor.
   "Uh, if everyone could gather please." I hear Elijah say and Nik pulls me towards the stairs again. He goes to pull me up them by his family and I shake my head no.
   "Nik, please no." I tell him and he sighs. "I'll be down here waiting." I tell him and he nods and joins his family.
   "Welcome. Thank you for joining us. You know, whenever my mother brings our family together like this, it's tradition to commence the evening with a dance. Tonight's pick is a centuries old waltz. so if all of you could please find yourselves a partner, please join us in the ballroom. I go to find Nik when I see him with Caroline. I go to turn and leave but Kol is right behind me.
   "It would be rude not to dance." He says and holds out his hand.
   "Really?" I ask him and he motions towards his hand and I sigh and take it. He leads me to the dance floor. The dance starts and I can't help but look at Nik and Caroline.
   "Please, she's got nothing on you." He says.
   "What? No, I wasn't- I mean- I'm not-" I stutter.
    "Jealous? Sure you're not." He says and smiles.
   "It's just. He's spent all this time loving me. What if I'm not what he expected? And I haven't said it back, so what if he's moving on?" I ask him and he laughs.
   "Please, you are the only person he would save over his precious doppelgänger. I mean, you're the reason he killed mother." He tells me.
   "I am?" I ask him.
   "Well, yeah. She killed you. So, he killed her." He tells me. "Now we switch." He says and before I can ask questions I'm in Nik's arms.
   "Hello, love. I was waiting for my brother to give you up." He tells me.
   "Really, sure you wouldn't rather be dancing with Caroline?" I ask him and he looks at me confused before smirking.
   "Are you jealous?" He asks and I look down.
   "What? No." I say and look over his shoulder.
   "I invited her because she just lost her father." He tells me.
   "So you did invite her?" I ask him and he looks even more confused. I realized how stupid I sounded and pulled away from him. "I should just go." I say and walk from the ballroom out of the mansion. I make my way out of the mansion and take a walk around the mansion. God, I sounded so stupid. I make my way back to the front pf the mansion where I see some horses. I smile at it and start to pet it's head.
"You always did like horses." I hear behind me. I turn to see Nik and turn back to the horse.
"Hey, what're you doing out here?" I ask him.
"Well, it is where you are. Why are you out here? It's freezing." He tells me and I feel him place his jacket around me. "I invited Caroline here, because she's your friend. I thought maybe it would be nice for you to have a friend around since none of them approve of us. And she just lost her father so I thought it would be nice for her to get out." He tells me and I turn and he is now right in front of me.
"So... it's not because I haven't told you I love you? You're not moving on?" I ask him and he laughs.
"Haven't had much luck in the last 1000 years. Why would I move on now?" He asks with a smile. He take my face in both my hands and we kiss.
"I'm sorry I got so jealous." I tell him as I wrap my arms around him.
"No need. I actually quite liked role reversal." He tells me and I laugh.
"We should go inside. People will wonder where you are." I tell him and start to move but he stops me.
"We can stay out for a minute more." He says and we move back to how we were.

After a few more minutes we head inside and stand with everyone in the ballroom.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Waiters are coming round with champagne. I invite you all tp join me in raising a glass." She says and Nik hands me a glass off the tray."It provides me with no greater joy than to see my family back together as one. I'd like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening. Cheers." She says and we all hold up our glasses and say cheers too. I turn to Nik and smile at him. He takes my glass and his and put them on a platter.
He takes my hand and walks me away from the crowd. We take a different staircase and he leads me to a room.
"Where are you taking me, Nik?" I ask him and he smiles at me.
"I want to show you something." He tells me. He opens the door to a room and I see a lot of paintings and canvases.
"Woah, did you paint all of these?" I ask him and he nods.
"They're beautiful." I tell him and I come across one where the whole canvas is black. I look back at him and he smiles.
"As you can see that's from one of my darkest times." He says and I laugh. I move over to some drawings and start to look through them. I find a few of me.
"Wow. I made the drawing list. I feel special." I tell him holding up a drawing of me.
"You should. I only draw things that are beautiful." He tells me and I blush and look down.
"You can be so charming when you want to be." I say and walk over to him. I yawn as I wrap my arms around him.
"Are you tired, love?" He asks me.
"A little bit yeah." I tell him. Suddenly he picks me up and starts to carry me away. "Nik, what are you doing?" I ask.
"We're going to bed." He tells me and I smile and lean into him.
