Unexpected Love (Nia and Tess// Raven's home)

Chapter 3

9:00PM 

Nia was lying on her bed. She didn't try to see Tess after what happened. She was listening to one of her favorite songs: "Focus" by H.E.R.

Throughout the whole song, she couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen if Chelsea didn't show up to the rooftop that afternoon. And for some reason, that thought pissed her off.

At the same time, Tess was also lying down in her bed, thinking about Nia. That's been her favorite occupation for the past eleven months. This is when she realized that she liked Nia... more than just a simple friend. She tried to stop those feelings at first, but when she realized that it was only getting worse, she simply decided to let it be.

She decided to get up from her bed and sit in front of her desk. She took her notebook and started to write some rap lyrics. When she finished and read them, she realized that it was a love song.

She sighed and got back to her bed. She thought about Nia's smile one last time before falling asleep.

Tess was currently in the school basketball court when Nia joined her. When she saw Nia, she immediately stopped and smiled at her. Nia couldn't help but smile back, with a strange feeling coming up in her stomach. They greeted each other with a hug and started to walk to their next class.

It was lunchtime. Nia joined Tess at their table and started to eat.

"About yesterday, I—"

"You did great for once," Tess cut in, not wanting to talk about it.

"What?" Nia said before laughing.

"You finally made it. I'm proud of you!" She said smiling.

"Thank you! But you should be proud of my teacher. She is the one who helped me with it."

"Oh... And who is that?" said Tess, faking a wondering face.

"I don't know," smiled Nia in the same faking tone.

They both laughed and kept eating their meals.

"So, Miles and I are going to the park after school. Do you want to join us?"

Tess's smile faded away at the mention of Miles.

"No, I don't want to disturb you," she said, sounding more aggressive than she wanted.

Nia was confused about that sudden change of mood. She didn't know what the issue was here.

"Trust me, you won't."

"Okay, I'll see," said Tess, not bothering to look at the one who made her heart skip beats.

And with that, they both finished their lunch without saying any other words. Nia didn't know how to process that. She didn't know what she did wrong.

Nia and Miles were already in the park. They were cuddling and smiling at each other. Miles tried his best to make Nia laugh and feel comfortable. Then he looked into her eyes and slowly approached his head to hers. At that moment, Nia couldn't help but think about yesterday afternoon. He became closer and closer, his eyes already closed. Nia couldn't do anything except close her own eyes. Their lips finally touched. She was so tense and couldn't find herself moving. Something didn't feel right, but she didn't know why. Maybe because, in that kiss, the only person that was on her mind was Tess.

At the same time, Tess was on her way to the park. She wanted to apologize and get to know Miles. After all, he's the one that makes Nia happy. She finally arrived, when she saw her worst nightmare: Nia kissing someone else. She was so shocked and disappointed that she left the same way she arrived, tears falling down her cheeks.
