Wings

"You're going to have to sneak in,'' Violet said at the front door of her house, trying to convey the seriousness of the situation to Tick.

The situation could only become more complicated if Violet waltzed inside with an unknown boy. There would be many questions, and questions were a problem, considering what Tick was and why he was there.

Oh, him? He's just my fake pixie boyfriend...

Tick grinned wickedly, his shiny white canines showing. "Not to worry."

His leather jacket began to shiver, almost as if it were just an illusion.

What is he-

In a flash of wintery light, Tick had wings. They were sticking out of slits in his jacket, a minty blue shade similar to his eyes and shoes.

And they sparkled. A lot.

For a moment, all Violet could do was stare. She supposed she should have been impressed; Starstruck, even. But all she could do was repress laughter. The shimmery wings were so at odds with Tick's "tough guy" act that the situation was dripping with irony.

Tick glared, "Not a word, human. You don't want your nurturers to see me, correct?"

Violet nodded as seriously as she could, though she was pretty sure she accidentally showed her smirk for a moment. "My room is up there, you can crawl through the window. Just make sure no one sees, including my, uh, 'nurturers'." Violet made one final check to make sure no one was outside.

Tick nodded, bending his knees to launch himself up.

"Wait!" called Violet, before he could go.

"I like your wings. They're very, erm, they're very pretty," she smiled cheekily.

Tick growled, launching himself up to her window and crawling through it more swiftly than humanly possible.
