Ivy's POV:
"Is this a Poodle Coat?" "Nope!" I replied. "It's something better!" She put it on. "See, not a coat, it's a vest!" "Still looks like your uncle's dreads." "Hey, at least he likes his hair!" I pointed at hers. "You need blonde highlights to feel happy!" We started play fighting each other, and laughing like we were five years old again. When we fell into a pile of chiffon, we finally stopped laughing and pulled each other up.
"Honestly, I'm still on the idea of you being a superhero. You could stand up to Charlie Brazzeri, you could stop that stupid crime ring from influencing our city," "You are just referencing Batman and Daredevil now." "Hey! There might be a crime ring!" "No way dude. I still can't believe that you are still on that stupid superhero thing. I'm not doing it, for any reason." "Are we still doing that Halloween thing?" "You mean the one day I can be myself?" "No, the one day that you can actually be a superhero." "Yeah, I'm still doing that." "Oh, and last year, do you remember," "Yes, I do. I stopped Charlie from stealing that stupid statue from the old lady at the festival." "That was just because he's an idiot, and tried to break her leg."
"Can I at least make your costume this year?" "Yes, you can make me a costume this year Ivy." I immediately grabbed my sketchbook and started my 'consultation.' "So, Miss Halley Moore," I began in a British accent. "What are you searching for today?" Halley started laughing. "Well, probably a simple superhero uniform, not a catsuit, with something to reveal my wings." "Hmm," I muttered. "Quite the hard case." That was true. Most of the things that I had tried to create in the past were more of the spandex superhero uniforms, and just plain not Halley. I tried to make a new design and started my usual routine while designing. "It will be bold, dramatic, heroic!" Halley laughed, and voiced her part. (As usual.) "I think that it should have a cape!" "NO CAPES!!!" I bellowed, our usual tradition complete. Then I went to my concept boards.
Over the years, my concept board collection has grown dramatically. When I was younger and just starting to sew, I had read online about how Disney artists made concept boards to help gather together ideas for characters and movies. My first one was for a simple t-shirt, made of a jersey. It was scratchy, lumpy, and horrid, but it was the first thing I made. I've gotten better sense then, creating bigger and better things, and working with even more ambitious projects.
"So, what are you thinking on using for this years costume?" "I'm probably gonna try to make it what you like for once." "So no repeat of Miss Rainbow Sparkle Face?" We both started giggling. Miss Rainbow Sparkle Face was the first suit that I had made for Halley. We both were pretty young then, so we both wanted rainbow, sparkly suits. (I always go as Halley's sidekick, yet again, another tradition.) I wanted to try to use glitter on spandex, my go-to for super suits. I was unwise and GLUED it on, but hey, I had only started sewing a year ago, and accessorizing only a little bit before that. Halloween came, and as soon as Halley and I started to walk around the neighborhood, the glue started to snap off the spandex, and glitter fell everywhere. Luckily, that was before we completely set out, so we ran back to the house and became ghosts for that year.
"I really want something that seems more like an aviator." "Really? You still going for that old jacket thing?" "It's tasteful." "Not if your wings end up getting stuck in it!" BOOM BOOM BOOM! "IVY, MOM SAYS IT'S TIME FOR DINNER!!!" "I'M WORKING WITH HALLEY HERE, BRING IT UP LATER!" "NO! MOM SAYS THAT IT IS TIME TO EAT NOW!!!" I glanced back at Halley. "We'll finish this later."
We ran downstairs and joined the dinner table, waiting to go back and plan some more ideas for her Halloween costume, and hopefully, my ulterior motive, a real, crime fighting, superhero costume.
