Lyras P.O.V
My morning started by me vigorously knocking on Natasha's door. Obviously she opened it unimpressed
"What" she asked opening the door staring at me
"You were right"
"About what?" She replied sternly clearly not in the mood for guessing games
"Bucky" she gave me a smile
"Go on"
"I may...." she gave me a look
"Ok I do have feelings for him, and I ruined any chance I may have with him by going after Jack happy?"
"Just a bit" she replied smugly "What are you going to do now?" She asked her tone changing to a much more serious one.
"I don't know" I answered softly Nat sighed then stepped to the side
"Come in" I slowly walked into her room and into her embrace.
"You know what you need to do"
"End things with Jack" I replied "I'll break his heart"
"Trust me he will be fine" I looked straight at Natasha
"What do you mean?" She opened her mouth but was cut off by an alarm. Both of us wiped our heads to the hallway where multiple people were running down the hall. Both of us stood up from her bed and walked over to the hall
"What is it?!" Nat shouted Steve stopped for a second
"Those HYDRA agents we took down? Turns out some of their friends want revenge." Me and Nat nodded and ran out together both of us heading to the armoury. There we grabbed as many guns and amino as we could. There Bucky was equally frantically grabbing guns.
"What are you doing here?" He asked when he saw me
"Same thing your doing, getting ready for the mission" he opened his mouth to protest but I interrupted him.
"Save your speech I'm coming." I walked out before he could say anything and onto the plane. While we were in the air Steve came up with a plan of attack.
"What about attacking?" I asked everyone looked at me then at Tony
"You sure she's not your daughter?" Steve asked
"Haha" Tony replied while Nat looked at me
"What? It was a joke" I replied
"Just don't want you to do anything stupid and get yourself hurt"
"When have I done that?" Both Nat and Bucky chuckled
"As I was saying" Steve said the four of us turning our attention back to him
"These guys are backup on the group we took down earlier but we do have a advantage this time, this time we are taking the fight to them. Our sources say their base isn't far. Now Sam Tony and Lyra I want you three to fly ahead and sneak on in. Look for any files that reports the attack. If we find out their reason for the attack maybe we can start piecing together their plan. The rest of us will cover you from the ground
"Think you can keep up?" I asked Sam
"That sound like a challenge" I turned to Steve
"When's drop off Cap?"
"Not to much father" I nodded and turned to Sam
"Ready to be left in the dust?"
I said heading towards the exit with my wings extended
"The only one being left in the dust is gonna be you" Sam said following behind
"Wanna bet?"
"You bet I do"
"Can I wager in?" Tony asked
"Yes" I replied before anyone else could
"My money is on Lyra leaving Bird Man behind in the clouds"
"I'm putting my money in on that too" Nat said I smiled
"Cap?" Tony turned to Steve
"Sorry Lyra my money is on Sam"
"Ha!"
"Ouch Steve I'm hurt"
"I'm with Little Stark" Thor announced
"Terminator? Banner?"
"I'm gonna have to go with Sam" Bruce said
"Same"
"You really got that little faith in me Sarg?"
"Impress me first" I walked right up to him
"Oh I'll impress you all right, and it's gonna feel so good taking that money from you when I leave Sam in the clouds." I walked away and pressed the button that opens the door.
"Ready when you are Sam"
"Woah Lyra we get closer to the ground first" Steve said
"They could see the plane, we'll be fine right Sam?" Sam nodded
"Good well then see you on the flip side" with that I ran out the minute my wings flapped for the first time today. I saw Sam dive off too. I picked up speed heading straight with Sam hot on my heels.
I picked up the pace not used to having a flying complain. I maneuvered around the clouds while picking up speed. I smiled loving the feeling of both the adrenaline from the race and the wind in the sky.
"Woah ho! Pick it up Sam!" I shouted
"You'll regret using all that energy for later!" I herd
"Is that what your doing? Saving your energy?" I asked
"Waiting for the big finale"
"At this rate you wont see the big finale, speed it up!" I shouted picking up speed again I dived down lower to see how close we are
"Ending is in site Sam! Where's your big finale?"
"Right here" he said only he was much closer before in fact he was right next to me
"See you on the flip side" he said before taking the lead. Both of us were struggling to take the lead until I saw the base.
"Finishing line is dead ahead"
"Steve wanted us to sneak in"
"So we land quietly" I said before pulling ahead.
When the base came into view I couldn't help but get flashbacks from my own time there. Old memories and feelings resurfaced that I thought I delt with years ago. Sam must have noticed because he said
"Lyra? You ok?" I looked at him and nodded
"You don't have to do this" he said not convinced
"I know, but I want to"
"This is gonna be hard on you, Bucky too"
"I can do it"
"Ok" both of us quietly landed
"I won't tell Tony it was a tie" Sam said I smiled
"Thank you"
"Lyra, Sam did you make it?" A familiar voice said from my intercom. I put my hand up to my ear
"Yeah Steve we're here" I said softly
"We're heading in now" Sam added on his own intercom.
"Ly" I herd Nat say
"Yeah" I replied knowing exactly wheat she was going to say.
"You sure?"
"Positive, we're heading in now no guards out front."
"Ok Tony will meet you there" Steve said
"Anyone else find it weird there's no one out here" Sam said I gulped
"Means their all inside."
I took one step inside and it felt like I never left. My heart started pounding and I started taking deep breaths the way I was taught and walked with light footsteps with Sam behind me, both of us had guns out prepared for anyone to come out. We opened a nearby room and Tony was there
"No guards?" Tony asked both of us shook our heads and put down our guns
"Not a single one" Sam said
"I don't like it" I said
"Agreed" Tony said
I walked around the room which had a desk with a computer on it with filling cabinets in the background.
"It doesn't make any sense, sure it may not be their HQ but why wouldn't they have guards outside ready for anyone to attack."
"Maybe because we were waiting for you" my eyes widened as I turned around
"Jack?"
"Surprise sweetheart"
