I can only watch in abject horror as my ship explodes. The tractor beam cuts out and before I can activate my boots a chunk of metal hits me full on in the face. I lose my grip on Eris as she falls, screaming her lungs out.
I am aware enough for my boots to fire and keep me from falling but I'm so frazzled they don't know which way to go.
A huge hunk of wreckage hurdles at me. I raise my hand and tuck behind my shield as it forms just in time. The fiery mass explodes against it without hurting me but does knock me further out of control.
I lose my bearings completely and veer off sideways at uncontrollable speeds. I crash through the window of an expensive looking skyscraper office building. Employees working late, already riled from the explosion right outside scream all the louder as I tumble in.
I start bleeding immediately. I'm covered in gashes and jagged chunks of glass pierce my body. I pull a particularly large chunk from my side and grit my teeth so hard they may be in danger of cracking.
As quickly as i entered, I leap back out the window and skate down towards the ground.
The ship is falling slowly. About half of the flight boosters are still firing keeping it from simply dropping like a rock. It still falls though. The flaming wreckage finally hits and utterly demolishes a small mattress store.
My gut wrenches into a thousand knots and I feel my blood boiling. There is no way Eris survived that fall. Even if she somehow did, she's flattened and or burned to a crisp. I knew her about two hours and couldn't keep her safe that long! I guess the Skyjackers got what they wanted after all.
As I stare blankly at the streets flooded with panicking earthlings, my advanced eyes spy her, standing and staring at the wreckage, in shock. Eris. it's... it's impossible. Impossible, but relieving nonetheless.
I skate faster than I ever have before and land next to her. I'm not cloaked in the slightest but it isn't as though with everything going on anyone gives me the slightest attention.
Eris gasps when I put my hand on her shoulder. "CAINE! I thought you were dead!"
"I thought you were dead!"
Out of nowhere she lunges at gives me a bone crushing hug. That was... unexpected.
"For the love of god, don't ever leave me!" She says.
"Not something you need to worry about."
I catch the scent a few seconds before it attacks. Eris is thrown backwards by an invisible force. Eris thrashes and shrieks as a Glimmer sits on her chest and uncloaks, wishing for her to see it's hideous face before she dies. It has a highly illegal pulsation gun in it's hand. If it fires it at point blank range Eris' head will splatter like a melon!
I go for my gun and am about to blast it when the creatures midsection explodes outward leaving a periwinkle hole clean through. It goes limp and Eris rolls it off her.
She leaps to her feet, gripping her gun so hard her knuckles turn white. "I really should mention I fucking love this thing!" she says in a shaky voice.
Some people have stopped to gawk, many of them filming. Well, I guess the whole world is going to find out what I have tonight.
"IT'S AN INVASION!" someone yells. "THEY'RE HERE TO TAKE US OVER, WE'RE DOOMED!"
"LOOK!" someone else yells and points towards the distant sky.
Oh gods, things are about to get a whole lot worse! The roar of battle cruisers fill the air as they fly low and fire into the crowd, blowing up cars and killing dozens with each shot. The roar is so deafening the crowds' screams are lost to it.
