The Gifted

Chapter 2- Secrets untold ... told

   We arrive at my apartment. I'm still in awe about the recent events, as I get out of my car as Roman has his hand out for me to grab. I take his hand as we all pile into my house.

  Myles is the first one to speak, "What the fuck just happened back there?". No one replies, at least not instantly. Then Roman speaks up, "I know, this is a lot, for you guys, and more so for Genesis". No one had ever really used my full name. They right there tells me how real and serious this is.

   "I'm a gifted, there are a few in every generation, they don't get picked lightly. I've had mine since I was little. Which is why you all never suspected me as one. I have been able to control the simple things I can do." Roman tells everyone in the room. Mel looking so scared. Along with Valentine and Harmony, all looking scared. Archer has his arm around Mel.

   "So your telling me. After all these years, your just telling us this....NOW?!?" Archer yells at Roman. "Look, were not supposed to just go around using our abilities to our own free will. The superiors can and will stripe them from us."

   "Oh the superiors that we knew noth-" Archer was telling untill I spoke. "Why me?", the words just flu out of my mouth, I wasn't thinking, it just happened. I watch as all heads turn to me, even Roman who is sitting right beside me.

    "The superiors pick people who they think could help the world, help people with it. Clearly you match all of those requirements. So...they chose you.", As these words come out of his mouth I just kind of go numb. This is a lot to take in. I just wanted a nice breakfast.

    "So what will happen to her? Will she have to be turned in? You know the government doesn't exactly 'Love' the gifted." Mel says shortly after the long awkward silence that fell over the group.

   "Considering Myles speaking quite loudly when it happened. We might all want to stay here. I'll go park the cars in the garage. We will order take out tonight." Roman tells the group as he gets up and begins to walk, the group doesn't talk to me, not even Mel, "Gen, want to come help me?" Roman asked me, and I'm glad he did.

    I get up and follow him as he places his hand on the small of my back and we get into the garage. As soon as he closes the door, I just start to cry. Roman runs over and wraps his muscular arms around me, gently stroking my hair, "Shhhh.... It's okay Gen, I'm here. We will get through this. I will help you with this." Roman reasures me and we stand there hugging for a while.

    I can smell his cologne, its  faint, but I can smell it in his shirt while my head is against his firm chest. He rubs my back a bit as he slowly begins to hum our favorite song. His voice is deep, and low, it's soothing to listen to. He is a good singer, some nights we would do karaoke and we'd sing all night long together.

    Thinking if these memories makes me smile, just as Roman let's go of me. "You okay, Gen?" He asks me, with  concern flooding his voice and entire body. "I am now." I tell him as I smile, and I see him slowly start to glow again with happiness as he smiles back.

    We walk back into the house from moving the cars to find the others all talking together and as they notice us they all grow quiet.
          

   Roman speaks up, "Common guys, were still your friends. We just have Abilities. Don't you guys fucking call the police. They will take us and have us tested on!". Silent, is the room after he says that. "We are just scared dude, worried and scared" Maverick says.

    "I get that, it makes sense Mav, Genesis is also scared out of her life right now, she wasn't as...privileged to find out as a kid. " Roman spits back at Mav, quite harshly, then he sighs. "Its been a long day, we all need food, and sleep.". He suggests to the group. Mel slowly nods and gets up, "I'll get some blow up beds and blankets.". 

    She disappears into the hall to get the beds and blankets from the closet. "I'm sorry for this morning." I tell the others, as I watch all their scared eyes come to meet mine.  "It's not your fault they chose you Gen..." Valentine chimes, then trails off. "I know, but for it to happen today, OUR day. Before the party." I tell her and I just see all of their eyes trying to tell me its not my fault, but their actions speak differently. 

    "Gen, its okay, I'll help you control it." Roman tells me, but I feel numb, like I can hear him, but not speak or move my body. "What if I can't control it Roman..." I say as I turn my head to look at him, meeting his kind eyes. "We will find a way, I won't stand for it any other way." He says as I feel arms wrap around me. They aren't Romans, I can't tell who's arms they are. 

    "I won't stand for it, you will control it, I'm not loosing my best friend.". Mels voice chimes in my ears as I turn and hug her tightly, not letting her go. "Thank you...so much" I exclaim to her as I just keep holding onto her, not letting her go.

   We all get ready to go to sleep, Roman put an air mattress in my room in case I needed him in the night. He said when he got these abilities, they gave him nightmares, which is another reason hes in my room. Mel, Archer and the other three are all in the living room, Valentine and Harmony sharing a bed, Myles and Archer in one, as Melody stays on the couch. 

    "Roman" I call out to him quietly in my room. "Yeah Gen?" I can hear him say back softly as his deep voice rings in the room and through my ears. Then, I say something I never thought I would, which is weird because we have slept beside each other before, not sex, but him holding me as I fall asleep in his arms, "Can you come lay with me?".  I can hear him get up as I look at him, and he gets in bed beside me and puts his arm around around my shoulders, the pulling the covers up to keep us warm. I lean my head against his chest and listen to his breathing, its steady and calming. Before I know it, I'm falling asleep.
