Alone in my room, I sit at my desk, fiddling with my pen slowly. As much as I try to keep my mind from racing, the unintelligible chatter outside my door keeps me from focusing. The guest must be arriving, which means I’ve got to swallow my thoughts and face everyone. A task that is surely going to tire me out, even though it seems easy. I mean, how hard is it to force a smile and make a little conversation here and there, right? Unable to keep my thoughts from wandering, I walk to the window. There isn’t much to look at, since the sun is gone, everything around lies in shadows. Yet again, my mind goes to a place which both scares me and excites me. A place where I can willingly walk out into the sun, where I can feel the warmth of the air around me. A chill runs down my spine, just as I hear the footsteps of someone approaching my door, breaking me away from thoughts. Quickly, I race to the other side of the door, with just enough time to answer the door before anyone gets the chance to knock.
“I should have realized that you’d answer the door like that,” Alisa laughed, “but I won’t even lie you scared me.”
I smiled, stepping aside to let her in the room. Dressed in her best party clothes, she sat down on my bed careful not to wrinkle anything. Alisa is my best friend, she is always there for me whenever I needed her, and I was beyond glad that she showed up tonight because she is what I need to survive this party.
“Don’t you think that you should be getting ready for the party?” She questioned, smiling at my pajamas.
“Yeah, I guess so. I was considering faking a stomachache or something to get out of going, but I won’t make you face the crowd alone.” I laughed quietly; we don’t ever get sick so that excuse probably wouldn’t have worked. Quickly, I walked to my closet to get everything that I needed and I headed to the shower, quietly thinking to myself. I really wasn't looking forward to tonight, even with Alisa here.
