Tuesday after school came pretty fast. I was really nervous about practice with Coach Bobby. I really need to work on being a little more outgoing.
I walk into the gym slowly not really sure I should have agreed to this. When I told my dad that I was going to be working with Coach to see if I should try out for basketball he nearly jumped out his chair with joy. That night we even shot some hoops, it felt like old times. So time to buck up, no backises!
"Hey Coach" I say as I jog over to where he was standing. He turns around and smiles. "Hey Megan, you ready to work?" I shake my head and he suggest we stretch first. "I know you hate laps but I think we should run every time we practice. " Coach says. I groan! Coach laughs and says" Don't worry, I think this will help, follow me." He gets up, reaches out and helps me up and I follow him outside. We walk around the building and down two blocks before he stops and smiles with his hands on his hips. I'm confused at why he is so happy and I look around dumbfounded. " It's a trail, instead of jogging around the gym, we can jog the trail. Or we could jog the gym?" he looks at me and laughs when he said gym. " Ok trail it is" he says still laughing. " Let's go, last one to the end is a rotten egg!" I laugh and take off. Maybe this won't be too bad after all.
Of course Coach makes it to the end first. He turns around and jumps up in the air screaming " Your the rotten egg!!!! Your the rotten egg!!!" He laughs and pats me on the back as I pass him laughing. As we walk back to school he is going over what we are going to work on. They were all shooting stances and dribbling. He says "Always know the basics, the basics are your foundation". When we get back to the gym I stop and get some water and almost miss the ball coach tosses at me. He motions for me to come to the free throw line. "Ok Megan let's work on your stance." He shows me how to stand and hold the ball. I copy him as best as I can and shoots the ball. The ball goes up in the air and MISSES! " Dang!" I say. "Try again" coach encourages. I try again and miss again! "Ok let me try something" he says as he walks over and starts touching and grabbing me trying to fix my stance. For some reason it felt weird. As he is trying to fix my stance he accidentally brushes up against my rear end. "Ok, now shoot" he says smiling. I bend my knees and shoot. The ball leaves my hands ever so lightly and goes through the hoop, nothing but net. I jump up and down and run and hug coach. He hugs me back a little longer then I expect and when he let's go I'm red in the face and say "Sorry coach". he laughs and tells me to practice some more. I do and most of the balls go in the basket.
Practice is finally over and I head to the showers to clean up and get ready to go home. As I am about to step in the shower the door opens ad the coach says " Good practice Megan! See you tomorrow. " he smiles and leaves. I flush thanking my lucky stars that this time at least I wasn't in the shower already. I hop in and rush wash, put my clothes on and start walking home.
At dinner my dad ask me all types of questions about practice. "So do you know if you wanna try out for basketball yet Megan" he ask me." Dad, it's only the first day!" I say and laugh. My dad asked if I want to shoot some hoops after dinner but I was exhausted and I had another long hard day tomorrow. "How about Saturday morning dad?" I ask. "That would be great Megan pops! Goodnight sweetie!" "Goodnight dad, mom!"
