~Asher~
When we get home, all three of my parents are home and talking in the kitchen.
"Hey guys! How was the park?" Angeline asks when we get into the house with a smile on her face. All 4 of the twins kids run up to give her a hug before moving onto my mom and then my dad. They all start talking at once and my parents all laugh while both sets of twins are talking a million miles an hour. Me and Ella look at each other and smile and I lean up against the fridge watching this all hash out.
"And THEN Racheal pushed Kyla off of the swing!" Kaden basically screams this at the top of his little lungs to be heard. My parents all look at each other and then at me while the kids don't notice the change in mood and are still talking like little chipmunks on crack. They walk over to me when the twins start fighting with each other about what happened.
"They're still going on about the whole 'Racheal' thing?" Mom asks with concern written on her face and I nod.
"I'm sure it's just an imaginary friend type thing, which is fine and all, but them blaming stuff on it isn't good," Angeline puts in, my dad agrees with her.
"It's definitely not good. Well since there's not much we can do about it, we mines well just wait it out and see where it goes." We all nod at each other and I leave the kitchen and go to my room. I get a text from Nate and I grin, happy he actually texted me. I decide I'll text back in a little bit so I don't seem too desperate. I open the door and put my bag on my bed before noticing something. My French doors are wide open.
'Okayyyy, that's a little weird'
I think while going to shut them. I grab the handles and then something strange happens, when I look out the doors I don't see the backyard like usual, instead there's silver trees. A giant forest of silver trees that seem to glisten in the moonlight. That's another thing, it's night, when it was just 3 in the afternoon, bright and sunny. I see movement and look behind a tree only to find glowing yellow eyes staring back at me. I scream and fall back, tripping on a shoe and falling on the ground. I close my eyes and count to three, when I open them, everything is back to the way it was. Sage brush and chickens and all.
Dad opens my door and rushes over to me.
"Asher! What's wrong? Why'd you scream?" He asks concerned and looking me over to check for injuries. I look back at the doors, checking to make sure the silver trees were really gone.
"Oh, uh, nothing. Sorry, I saw a snake and it scared me," I reply, still confused as to what just happened.
"Oh jeez, I thought something actually happened to you, don't scare me like that," he answers, laughing. He leaves the room, and I ask him to shut the door. I get off the floor once he leaves, hands shaking, and walk over to my French doors again. I cautiously touch the handle again but nothing happens. I close the doors and curtains then walk over to my bed and take my shoes off while shaking my head.
'Jeez my life is weird, I need to stop reading so many books. They're starting to mess with my head'
Even after having that thought I pick up my book anyway and begin reading again. I read for about half an hour before suddenly remembering about the text from Nate.
Nate:
'Hey Sunshine, whatcha doing?'
I laugh at the nickname and respond.
Me:
'Not much, just reading haha, hby?'
I put my phone down thinking it'll be a while before he responds. I was wrong. After only about 20 seconds my phone chimes again signalling a text. I pick it up, smiling thinking it's him, but once again, I was wrong. It's a text from my cousin and also best friend, Hanna.
The Bestest:
'Heyyyy, you wanna hangout tonight? I'm severely bored and I miss you!!'
Me:
'Sounds fun! I miss you too, and boy do I have stuff to tell youuuu ;)'
The Bestest:
'Ooooooo, spill!'
Me:
'Nuh uh you have to wait until tonight! Wanna grab the snacks and I'll get the drinks?'
The Bestest:
'Ughhhh fineeeee. You better not forget any details though! Wanna come over now or later tonight after dinner?'
Me:
'Can rn, gotta shift at the diner, buuuut I can afterwards?'
The Bestest:
'Sounds awesome!'
Me:
'Alrighty, see you then :D'
I put my phone down and turn on some music so I can start getting ready for my shift. Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne came on and I immediately start dancing around my room and singing. After about two minutes I fall backwards onto my bed and sigh and my phone chimes with another text.
Nate:
'Not much, bored, when do you want to next hangout?'
Me:
'Hm not sure, I have a shift at the diner in like an hour and then I'm going to my cousins house after that. If I take the kids to the park again tomorrow we could then?'
Nate:
'Sounds like a plan, see you then :P'
Me:
'Awesome, okay I gotta get ready. Talk later?'
Nate:
'You bet Sunshine ;)'
I smile and get up to get ready, still grinning like a lunatic. I can't help myself and I do a little happy dance before composing myself so I can leave my room without my family asking why I'm grinning like a lunatic.
'Okay Asher, time to actually get ready.' I nod after thinking that and go to take a shower. After my shower, I get dressed into the same high-wasted jean shorts I was wearing earlier and my work shirt which is just a plain black polo with a little milkshake symbol on the top left right above my boob. I put on my black converse high-tops and then some mascara, I look at my phone and see I'm running a little late so I just grab my keys and Carmex off my dresser before making sure I have my phone and the backpack I'm taking to Hanna's and leaving my room.
I yell to my parents that I'm staying at her house after my shift and they yell "love you's" and "be safe's" at me and then I'm out the door. I get to the diner with two minutes to spare, I may have gone just a little over the speed limit, oops.
"Hey Asher, I'm heading out. It's been pretty slow today but dinner rush is coming up so if it gets too busy just call me and I can come back," Nicole, another girl who works here says. She's a couple years older than me and is extremely nice. She's really pretty with dark brown hair and dark brown eyes that anyone would fall for, she's a couple inches taller than me and has straight white teeth that I could only dream of having. She gives me a quick hug and then leaves, the bell on the door chimes as she does.
The clock chimes 5 and I sigh and grab a rag to start wiping counters while waiting for the dinner rush to start. I make a pot of coffee and make sure all the ketchup and mustard bottles are filled and then sweep floors. My usual's start coming in and I get to work taking orders and bringing drinks out. It's already packed and it's not even 6 yet.
'This is gonna be a loooong night.'
