Another long day has finally come to an end. The gradient of orange and red colors she could see on the horizon shows the last remaining sun rays before dusk. She continues to wonder about why we humans collectively think in the exact same way. How is it that the scenery that shows the last remaining bit of light in a day would be considered calming? Shouldn't it be frightening to know that the dark will be arriving after? Maybe to some, but not to her. It wasn't the darkness that she ever feared, only what might lurk hidden beneath its shadows.
Nonetheless, seeing the sunset from her bus had brought a good omen to her. She will be arriving home soon. No more lectures, no more headaches, or awkward small talks with mediocre classmates. Her alone time is the most valuable time of the day, as it is the only time she can be herself without having this constant mask on.
Nothing could hurt her when she dives back into her comfort zone that she misses so very much, hopefully. That is if the demons that fill her head with anxious thoughts decide to give her a break tonight.
Once at her stop, she pulled her bag over her shoulder and got off, leaving behind the bus to continue its journey. She sighed, content to be gazing at her familiar neighborhood. She looked down at her phone and clicked play on yet another song in her playlist. It has been a habit for quite a while to pass the time by getting lost in the music. Especially when walking down her quiet suburban neighborhood.
Even though it was quiet, there were familiar faces that passed by her every now and then. Every step that she took closer to home was another stone that she was breaking down from the wall that she had always kept around people. Thankfully, the music drowned out her overthinking that everyone else's eyes were somehow on her.
Once the first song had gotten lower towards the end, her ears got perked by the sound of crumpling from a nearby trashcan. She clicked pause and stopped in her tracks, getting a bit curious about what is lurking inside.
The soft sound of a cat meowing came next. It was enough to get her full attention so she rushed over to see the little kitty hiding there. She audibly awed when she saw a small white cat looking up at her with glowing green eyes that matched well with her own.
"What are you doing here little guy?" She mumbled as she pulled it up from the stinky situation it had gotten itself into. She held it close and started stroking it's head, below it's chin, and ears. The small one purred, then started to twirl around in the girl's hand. It meowed again, a little bit more violently this time.
Looks like it is hungry...
The blond girl put the kitty down and watched it rub its body on her leg. In the meantime, she opened her bag and got out the canned wet food she had originally bought for her own kitty at home.
The kitty's eyes glowed at the sight of food, and rushed towards the small can she placed on the sidewalk for her. It must have been the only thing she had eaten all day. The girl smiled looking at it eat with such hunger, so she started stroking it's fluffy head.
It looks so clean and groomed, she wondered if it had ran away from its owner.
"Ah... Ava must have been too hungry to wait.." she heard an unfamiliar deep voice coming from behind her.
Her heart skipped a beat at the sudden presence of a man behind her. She didn't even hear any footsteps move toward her which was uncommon. She had always been the attentive type.
She turned around to meet the mysterious man and her eyes widened. It was hard not to notice him when he appeared so alluring. The first thing she notices about anyone is always their eyes and when she took one look at the sharp blue eyes of her mystery man, she couldn't look away. The sun had already set by now, and the darkness of the night surrounded them from all sides.
