Aurora ☪︎
▂▂▂▂▂▂Chapter 02: It was too late [Edited]
I have a lot of regrets from my 18 years of living on this planet, and this, especially this is probably the worst one of all. I haven't been here a full month and I'm already making a big mistake.
My brain is telling me to stop, turn around, and walk straight back to the diner. At least at the diner, I'd know what to expect and the next hours would just be another typical night. My body doesn't listen to this logic though, it keeps on moving towards the frat house.
The closer I get, the louder the music becomes, and it makes the floor beneath me vibrate from the soundwaves. The windows are all open which allows me to see what's going on inside. Multicolored lights dance around from room to room, synchronizing together as they go back and forth.
The front yard has a couple of dozen people outside, each of them doing their own thing. There's puking, passing out on the grass, or smoking. Things I don't see very often. I don't want to end up puking myself so I quickly cross the lawn. The door is wide open and I hesitate to step in. It's an invite based frat, I'm sure it's not that easy to get in.
I was right.
Within seconds of me putting my foot up to step, an extremely tall guy stands in front of the door with his arms crossed, blocking my way which forces me to take a couple of steps back to get a good look at him. He's built like a typical jock, tall, muscular, some facial hair but nothing serious. The only thing that differs him from other frat boys or people for that matter is a scar that runs down his left cheek.
He looks down at me, scanning my body but I can't tell if he's judging me or checking me out. Either way, it's creepy and weird. I'd like to think I'm dressing in 'party' wear with ripped jeans and a cropped sweatshirt that show's about an inch or two of skin. This is what I would wear to all the parties I've been to. I can see why others would think otherwise seeing as there are a lot more people wearing rather flashy clothing. Though in my defense I didn't even want to come here until 15 minutes ago, it took me 13 to get here.
"Really?" he laughs which immediately makes me frown and my eyes narrow slightly. "You have the wrong house."
"Aurora Castro," I say.
"What?"
"Look for my name." I sigh, rolling my eyes. Maybe this is a sign telling me that I shouldn't be here and need to just go back to my dorm.
He goes on his phone before hastily scrolling down, I know he isn't looking for my name nor is he serious about it since it's impossible to read the names if you scroll that fast. "Sorry, can't find you."
"Okay." I shrug, not wanting to fight about this so I just turn around and start walking back. What am I supposed to even do? Beat him up and make my way in, or sob and guilt-trip him into letting me in? I'm not going to waste my time to simply attend a party.
Am I slightly disappointed that I didn't get in? Maybe. Am I surprised? No, and I didn't have very high expectations about this night either.
"Aurora!" A familiar voice calls out for me. I immediately turn around to see Matthew standing at the door, a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. He motions for me to come back, and I do.
"Why'd you leave? You haven't even stepped in." He frowns, swaying slightly, indicating he's tipsy. That and the fact he reeks of booze and is currently holding one of the probably many bottles of beer tonight. I can't help but look at him in distaste with the whole alcohol and cigarette getup.
