Ren's POV:

"Ren! Get up or I'll get a cup of ice water and dump it on you!"

I sluggishly roll over onto my back and open my eyes. " Okay. I'm up." I turn to look at the clock on my bedside table. 6:37. It's way too early for her to be yelling. I slowly get up rubbing the sleep from my eyes as I walk to my bedroom door. I head down the stairs to where my mom is making eggs and bacon. As I get closer I can smell the crispy goodness. My stomach began to sound like a whale in distress.

"Good morning Ren. How do you want your eggs? Fried or scrambled?"

"Not today. I'll just have some of this before I go." I pick up a few strips from the pile of bacon on the table. I could still see the steam rising off the cooked perfection.

"You need more food then that. Today's a very important day for you." my mom said with the biggest smile on her face. She always had a smile. The last time I saw her without one was when I was in the hospital for a broken leg when I was nine.

"Mom, I'll be fine. Yes, today's my first day as a senior, but I've been going to that school for two years already. I don't think that counts"

"I would shut up if I were you. You know how Mom gets with stuff like this." My sister had just walked into the kitchen. Her hair was still a mess, and I don't mean just a little. It looked like she could hide a small dog in there.

"Looks like you haven't brushed your hair in years. Pick up a brush before that thing eats someone."

Bree picked up the brush next to her and smacked me in the arm with is before I even know what she was doing.

"Owe!" She had just walked away into the bathroom like nothing had happened.

When I got to school, I started talking to my best friend. My only friend to be exact. I met Amanda in fifth grade. I told her everything, personal or not, but I need to tell her something that she might hate me for today.

"What's wrong Ren? Everything okay?" I almost fell off the front steps of the school when I jumped from the sudden voice. I looked into Amanda's pale green eyes. They were so kind and made it feel like she would protect you at any cost.

"Oh hey. Yeah I'm fine. Just first day jitters I guess." I managed a weak smile in her direction. All I got in return though was a long dramatic sigh and a look of disappointment that your parents would give you when they knew you were lying. "Okay fine, I'm really nervous. Can I tell you something? If I do, you can't be mad at me."

"What the hell could you tell me to make me hate you? I could never hate you, Ren. You're my best friend. I've known you for seven year now."

"Okay um well " She gave me the "get on with it" look after about ten seconds of waiting. "Okay. Okay." I through my hands up in defense. "I'm ga-"

"Hey Amanda come over here!" A girl with long curly red hair was waving her over and looked super exited about something. I was a little annoyed but also relived for the few more seconds to think about what I was about to tell Amanda.

"I'll be there in a sec Sam! I'm talking to Ren!" She turned back around to me "Sorry, keep going."

"Never mind. It's nothing." She gave me the other look she was fond of; the say it or I'll kick your ass look. "Okay. As I was saying. Well I'm..." I paused for a second to build up what courage I had. "Gay." I flinched just in case she wanted to punch me.

"Ren!That's great!" She hugged me so tight I thought I was going to pop like a balloon.

"Wait...What? You're not mad?"

Still hugging me she said "Why would I be mad at you for something like that. Silly! This is great news!" Her saying that really didn't help me understand, but I am happy that she's not mad at me. If I lost Amanda, I would have nobody other than my mom and sister. "Anyway, we need to get to class. We can talk more about this later. What do ya got first?"

I look at the small slip of paper in my hand."Ugh! I got math."

"So do I! What teacher?" I showed her my paper and pointed to the name Mrs. Reed. "Same! At least we can talk if we get too bored." She stuck out her tongue and laughed. This is why she's my best friend. I wouldn't last a day without her in my life. I honestly don't know how I did all the way up to fifth grade.
